Its when you are using a film camera (16mm, super 8mm, whatever) and it is the spots near the beginning or the end of the shot where you get lots of yellows, reds, and whites and the film overexposes from light exposure. it is a cool effect that people have always tried to emulate whether with software or various methods of using footage of a flame and messing with overlays and transparency settings.


Here is one somebody did with DV footage. Im sure you have seen a real one in a ski movie or something before.

Film burns on video just should not be done... It's a "Film" burn, not video burn.

i prefer my way
i zoomed on a candle flame, after i put it on vegas and i put a chroma keyer for red screen, so the red was now transparent. the i put it on a layer above the actual skiing footage
