Is This Helmet Worth It

Do you reckon this Shiv is worth it. It comes with Audio intergration. It's goin for $85.

only if you value the audio feature that much. personally, id rather whack some ipod earphones in rather than invest in audio helmets. you can get the non-audio shiv for around $50 and i reckon its a pretty rockin helmet - http://www.rei.com/product/776161

also, i found a similar one to what you found a bit cheaper

get the holt. i had one and loved it, but then i was dumb and took out the velcro to the padding. then it didnt fit as well

Helmets are like boots, if on a smaller scale - go to your local shop and try them on.  Helmets are invaluably important, and thus you should probably have one that fits correctly.

Only after you've been to your shop and tried them on in person should you consider going back and buying it online.  Remember, size doesn't tell everything, and every helmet has a different shape.

A few people have mentioned the Holt, but I am sorry, it is a cheap piece of plastic.  If you just want something to protect you from your bare head smacking a rail, then yes, it is a good option.  If you want a high quality helmet, don't get it.  Put on a g10 mx, or smith variant brim and it feels worlds apart from a holt.

That being said, I think you can find a better deal on a Shiv Audio if you keep your eye out and don't need it right away.

word, the holt and bakers and all those other lids are just cheap ABS shells, the Shiv is in mold. its crazy light.

as for the tune ups, pass on them. they sound like crap. your better off to pick up a pair of Sony H.ears for 10 bucks. besides, that lid fits better with a hat under anyway, just pull the flaps out.

The Shiv is awesome and it isn't a cheap skate helmet, although light, it offer great protection and looks sweet but as others have mentioned something like the G10 is a little safer and has better and more exact size adjustment
However I love my Shiv as much as my G10MX

what this guy means is that audio helmets are useless... just get headphones. But a "simple" helmet may not be what you want... I'd recommend one with extra protection like the giro mx10 or the POC receptor

I highly recommend the Shiv, I rode one all year and it's a great helmet. Light, but offers plenty of protection if you happen to bash your head into something.

I dunno, i had a G10 and sold it in after a few weeks. they are heavy, and really bulky. the adjustable vent thing sucks up so much extra space, and theres just alot of excess. granted, they do fit very good, but you can just get the g9 instead, same rocklock but normal vents. I have a shiv tho, and dig it much more.
