I think the administration's intentions were in the right place; trying to save the nearly bankrupt and habitually awfully run VA $540 million, but obviously, this was a pretty stupid proposal. Obama and his advisors seemed to fail to consider what the effects on employment opportunities for wounded veterans would be. This e-mail attempts to paint this proposal in a malicious light, when the truth is, that they were trying to figure out a way to generate money in order to ensure the very survival of the VA.
To be fair, Obama has proposed the largest funding increase for the VA in more than 30 years. His budget includes an 11% increase in 2010, and 25 billion over the next five years. It's important to put things into perspective and not jump to conclusions.
Remember, if we see an overhauling of the healthcare industry in the next 12 months like Obama has promised (in the form of universal healthcare), this will be a non-issue. :)
