not a chelsea fan or a barca fan really, but the officiating went both ways. It sucks for chelsea, but it happens. They were relaxing and thinking it was over. Can't celebrate til the whistle blows three times.

No it was Essien. Ironically he's probably their most consistent player and also the one who scored their goal.

Fujarome, Abidal's red was a horrible call but it actually worked in favor of Barca. Also, the ref missed I'd say 4 arguable penalties and a good number of fouls outside the box, at some point something had to give. He had a fucking shocker. UEFA is quickly become a joke with it's clow refs and idiots like Platini running the show. Perhaps I should start watching South American football.

true, it did help them a bit. The reffing was pretty bad overall. There were arguable penalties, but i think the only one that definitely should have been one was one of the earlier handballs (not the 95th min handball, that hit his shoulder more, and was unintentional)

I love platini as a frenchman, but hate him as the head of UEFA. him and his damn 6+5 rule

not being a soccer fan and being an ignorant american it took me a bit to realize people were talking about soccer...  my brain went from Chelsea a girl, to wallball (cause of the handball thing) AND THEN soccer....  god i suck.

Pique even admitted after the game that the ball struck his hand and could have been a penalty. Malouda's foul was in the box, why no penalty? Every penalty incident I've seen given before except for the handball on Eto'o. Pique's was 100% though.

Either way the only person who has to be ashamed today is that idiot ref. It's become a worrying trend in European soccer that refs are making themselves bigger than the game. Can someone please convince Collina out of retirement?

Chelsea played a smart and valiant game today. I would have maybe brought Mikel on in place of Ballack or instead of Beletti though. They can come out of this with their heads held high. Also, I was hoping Ballack would knock the ref out when he was chasing him. Or Drogba. People can call those players cunts all they want but they would have acted the same way or worse in that situation.

and hate on soccer all you want, but soccer is the biggest sport in the world. man u is the most popular sports team on the planet, soccer games are the most attended sports events on earth, they are the worlds biggest audience in terms of television, and i imagine there is something similar by radio.

soccer is not popular in america for many reasons, but that doesnt mean its inferior because you grew up in alabama and love AMERICAN football.

and it wasnt a blatant hand. he had his back turned and it was his upper arm.

What you mean the first or the second one? The ref didn't want to decide the game with a call. And by not calling some of the fouls he in turn did decide the fate of the game in a way.

I'm still upset it's not Man U v. Chelsea. But the Reds are going to win regardless.

You must support chelsea or something, because both ballack and drogba should be very ashamed of themselves. Frank Lampard must've been pissed off too, but he chose to act like a respectable man and take it on the chin. It's funny how the biggest cheater in all of world football gives the ref shit, and ballack, who should have been sent off in the first match.

Chelsea brought all of these problems on themselves by not going after that second goal. They knew if they drew that barca would go through, yet they stayed back and absorbed the pressure for the whole match. Unfortunately drogba was rolling around for about 4 mins, and Iniesta scored in the third minute.

I will have to say that the ref had a terrible game however, and missed calls for both sides, but Chelsea as a club must shoulder some of the blame. Plus, who wants another final like last years? I know I don't....

ps. I was really hoping that john terry would cry like a little bitch again.

chelseas goal was the worst that couldve happend to the game itself, cause from then on chelsea was only defending, they didnt want to play soccer, they just destroyed barcas game.
soccer shouldnt be like rugby or american football where its all about physical strength, soccer is much more technical, thats why i think barca is the better team because their way of playing is way more beautifull !
so although i agree that chelsea somehow got robbed, i'm glad barca is through to the finals!!

the way drogba acted after the game was shameful, Going on a swearing and yelling frenzy in front of TV cameras. I can understand being pissed, but don't embarrass the team as well. And ballack...well, i've never seen a ref sway under a play pressuring him for 2 minutes after a call, so he should have been sent off.

Hiddink i'd imagine will be equally pissed off, but he's not a manager who takes this type of crap off his players. I'd expect punishments for some of them both from UEFA and hiddink himself. I don't support chelsea, but i admired the way Terry and Lampard took it. They were in disbelief, and just sat back.

You gotta stress out after a game the way Nicklas Bendtner did it....go to a night club, get drunk, and take your pants off.

At the same time I can understand it. Can you imagine having something you've earned taken away from you like that? Some people stand there in disbelief but others get angry. That's how Drogba dealt with it. And the ref should have heard it. He deserves to know just how bad he fucked up.

i wouldn't say he earned it and lost it. Part of the game is dealing with bad calls and playing on. Chelsea's entire argument is based on bad calls against them. Every team gets bad calls, and i'm willing to bet at some point in their history, chelsea has won due to bad reffing. If they had managed to keep a 10 man barca back for another 40 seconds, then they would have earned.

It's definitely understandable to be pissed, but if drogba and the rest hadn't scored only the 1 goal, then tried to defend the rest of the game, they'd have been through. They had plenty of other chances. This game in my opinion proves that Barcelona doesn't give in under immense pressure. To score a 93rd minute equalizer...i'd say they earned the win moreso than chelsea

i hate chelsea and drogba as much as anyone... ive been a lifelong Man U fan, but if you watched the game there is no question that the Ref was either mentally retarded, or the game was rigged because UEFA didnt want 2 English teams in the final.

1. The foul on drogba was an obvious penalty... he went down easily as usualy, but his shirt was clearly pulled and then he was tripped. no question about it.

2. the first handball was pretty obvious. the guy's hand was stretched out and blocked the ball from going towards the net. theres hardly ever a more clear handball... if the ref couldnt see it the linesman should have.

3. the other handball was the most obvious. it hit him in his upper arm, which was extended upwards, blocking the ball. the ref was standing about 10 feet away in plain view. there is no question that should be a penalty.


i honestly hoped someone from chelsea would punch that ref in the face. it was the most disgraceful display of refereeing i have ever seen in a sporting event... it highly likely that the game was rigged.
i dont think you can say that the chelsea players shouldnt have reacted the way they did. if any of you play sports and played in a big game where calls have gone against you a lot of the time, you'd know how it feels. then take that emotion, multiply it by 1000, and youve got what the chelsea players are thinking.

Chelsea 100%  deserved to go through yesterday, they were hands down the better team over the two legs. They had a plan and worked it to perfection, give them a penalty or two and they're through. You guys need to get of your ''beautiful football'' high horse and wake the fuck up. Barcelona are really quite shit, Chelsea exposed them just like any English opposition would. I'd even go so far as to say they would have lost against and I-Talian team as well.

And whoever said Man U is the biggest team in the world is wrong, it's Real Madrid.

Whoever said Drogba is the biggest cheater in footy is probably a dirty Manc because let's face it, it's unquestionably CRY(CR7).

Drogba's reaction was completely justified. Did you honestly expect him to just be a push over and not do anything? That would be in a way validating the refs pisser game that he had. What would have been unacceptable is if no one had done anything.

Seriously people think with your heads for 2 seconds. Fuck!

i don't think someone who claims to be a chelsea fan should be telling others to think with their heads, you clearly have a biased view, just like everyone else including me.

and in any case, the way drogba and ballack acted was out of line. The ref clearly sucked, but getting in his face, and then cursing at cameras is not going to change the result, especially after the final whistle. I know he was mad etc, but all he did was embarass himself and probably pick up a suspension or fine. He's a professional athlete, he's lost plenty of important games before, and will again in the future. This is not how he should act. Take lampard as a perfect example of how to act.

Ha, i'd agree that the biggest cheater is ronaldo though, anyone see the gust of wind that brought him down at the emirates for that freekick goal?

The Eto'o handball would never be called by any decent ref. He had his back turned and it hit the back of his shoulder. So in the end, chelsea was robbed of probably 1 pk. Keep in mind, they could have missed that pk. Barcelona lost a player on the most obvious non-foul ever, and they had to continue with a man down rather than keep bringing up all the supposed missed pks etc.

I'm an Arsenal supporter, so i really don't give a shit, cause we just straight up lost, but we accepted it, and moved on.

he was clearly fouled inside the box... if you watch replays of it you can see both players tore up parts of the field well inside the box.
eto's handball should have been called by any ref that knows the rules of the game of football. he blocked a shot on net with his hand that was raised... if the ball hits you anywhere on the arm its still a handball. this isnt little league soccer here.
and the foul on drogba where his shirt was obviously pulled and then was tripped was also a penatly...

i've seen replays....

the foul on malouda occurred outside the box, and he went in which as i said, was a smart effort but the foul did actually occur when he still had the ball, right on the line. Pique's handball was unintentional, but definitely should have been a penalty. Certain angles make drogba's shirt grab look worse than it was. If you see it from the front, you see that really both of them were fouling the shit out each of each other, but of course the attacker goes down easier than the defender. After rewatching Eto'os....its a tough call and i think it would be questionable with any ref deciding either way.

The fact remains that Chelsea could have easily won this game without questionable calls (except pique's, that was definite) the opportunities were there, but there were a few cases where drogba couldn't finish, or they simply decided to try for the penalty rather than get a goal on their own.

I guess I shouldn't expect you to understand; you're and Arsenal fan and you haven seen silverware in years. You're team seems to have forgotten what winning is. Too bad really cause they're much more likable than Liverpool or Man U.

The Malouda foul was in the box, nuff said.

The Eto'o penalty could very well have been given. The rules of the game state that if it is hand to ball, which this was despite what you may think, it should be a penalty. Eto'o had no control of himself as his back was turned to goal (reason 1), his arm was outstretched (reason two) and the ball did hit his hand/arm (reason 3). Don't tell me you've never seen those given before.

Even the call for the Drogba penalty was legitimate. You CAN'T grab and tug a player or his jersey in football. You just can't fucking do it. I don't care how hard you pull or for how long it's 100% against the rules of the game and in this case it did impede Drogba's progress.

Pique's handball was a straight penalty.

There you have it, 4 very arguable penaltie decisions not given. That's outrageous! Just plain unnaceptable. Obviously all 4 of them were never going to be given but at least 1 or 2 should have.

Also, I assume you've never played high level sports before. When you earn something and have it taken away from you like that you have the right to go a little crazy. Just because they are professionals does not mean they aren't humans. In fact, I'm glad someone gave the ref hell, it would have been horrible if all of them just simply walked away. The ref and UEFA need this controversy if they are ever going to get better. I for one would have probably knocked him the fuck out.

And once again over two legs Chelsea did outplay Barcelona.

ha, i don't mind you shibby, i think with me supporting Arsenal, and you supporting Chelsea, this argument could go on forever. I'm not that worried about trophies, because i know for sure they'll be back, and its not as if chelsea has a huge experience with trophies either, come on, even you must admit that they were a decent but not great team for most of their history until a russian threw all his money at them. If you look at what Arsene does with the money he gets compared to the money most big teams get...it's pretty impressive.

(i could go on blaming injuries/ ref's calls etc, but that won't change the fact that they've lost this year and haven't won in awhile)

and to answer the last part, yes, i have played high level sports and still do, and yes, i have lost important games due to bad calls. Not quite a CL semi, but even though i was pissed i didn't follow the ref for a minute yelling in his face, or throw a fit in front of my teammates, fans and coaches.

Chelsea did outplay them, hiddink is a genius and knew how to deal with them, but in the end, they still lost, and they have to accept that.


But yea.....the way UEFA is run now is a bit of a joke, Platini should step down and just become the president of the French federation, since the current one is an idiot, and he is much better suited to be running domestic affairs for France.
