Question about camp

Hey NS! Hopefully this is the right place to post this.

I recently switched over from snowboarding to skiing and its been great. The only this that sucks is that I picked it up real late in the season. Ive only skied 2 times since I switched and the snow is already melting :(. So heres my question.

Would it be a waste of my money to go to a Windells summer session being that I haven't skied very much? I feel completely comfortable on skis and can ski pretty well in my opinion. I went into the park and was hitting some of the jumps and boxes (granted not doing anything amazing haha) and was wondering if I could improve a lot by going to a camp or should I just wait till next year when I have a little more experience to attend one. depends. If you have a lotta money, and think you can improve your skiing in a week, go to camp.

But if you are not so great in the park, and wouldn't hit bigger jumps, save your money for next summer and first get lessons, and just keep learning by yourself.
Then go to windells. I went. helped so much.

Well it would be like a graduation gift where I pay half, but  I think ill ski a full season before going to a camp. Damn, too bad I have to wait forever to get back on skis.

I would say to build a summer sesh, but seeing that you are more wanting to get more comfortable on your skis I would say maybe invest in some skates?

About the skates, I feel comfortable on skis. I just wanna learn more in the park.

Go to camp dude. You'll learn more at camp in one week than you will in one season. For example, here's a camper testimonial from last summer:

"I just wanted to say that I learned more in the 3 days I was riding at the camp of champions than I have in the past 3 years. Thank you so much! See you next year." - Krizia G

I doesn't matter what your ability level is when you get to camp, first time park rider or experienced park rider, you'll improve a ton if you commit to trying tricks you've never tried before and listen to your coach.

i think you should save your money and go to camp when you realy have the skill to enjoy it.

paying 2k to learn 1s,3s or even 5 isnt worth it.

go back next year or in two years then coaching will be helpful for flats, corks, rodeos, sw cork...

 As a Windell's alumni and now employee...

You will progress A LOT going to camp and will learn a lot from your fellow campers and coaches.

Contrary to what Gharf says, it's not going to matter whether you can do 3's or 9's... you're still going to progress about the same. And I don't think not being able to do huge tricks yet will make camp any less fun. Even if you can't do much yet, going to camp will let you learn how to do basic stuff, so when you're ready for big stuff... you know you're going to be doing it right!

There is no "wrong" or "right" way to ski, but there are techniques you should learn from the very beginning so you don't catch on to bad habits... Windells is the perfect place to make sure you're starting out right!

Hey thanks again everyone!

I'm still deciding and gotta see if I'm gonna have the money to go but hopefully I can make it up to one of the sessions. Do most people go alone or with a group of friends?

If you go to windells I have heard sesh 5 is a good one, plus I think if you have the mean to go GO cu t will hep you a lot. I'm going first time as well but I have only been hitting the park since late jan.

learn to ski before you go into the park at all. it'll help out SO much. don't waste your money on camp before you can make parallel turns down a decently steep slope and have a few basic tricks down. It's way too expensive. Oh hell yeah it's amazingly fun but you won't get the full experience unless you are working with some average skiing ability.

this is exactly what i was going to say, go to camp next summer would be my advice you'll learn much more anyways since you will be more comfortable on your skis, you can't learn how to ski perfectly in two days man.

Yea I know what you mean. Thats why I was iffy. Who knows now lol.

What would be good enough? I can already parallel turn and stuff. I just cant ski switch very well or do any tricks.

Sorry my keyboard is screwed up. What I ment to say was that if you have the means(that means money lol) then you should most definatly go because you will learn a lot.

I would tell you to wait for next year man, it will be much better, learning to be solid riding switch can take a while and you're probably not solid enough on your skis to lean a lot of stuff, it's normal after 2 days. I would tell you to go next year since this year you will basically learn stuff that you would normally learn by yourself skiing at your hill. You know what I mean?

Hey, I`m a staff member and former camper at the Dave Murray Summer Ski Camp. I honestly would say I would choose to go to camp, and I`m not just saying that because i work for one. I think you should go because if you go to camp, like att ours, you`ve got coaches that are teaching you how to properly do tricks. Which means you will learn to do things you weren`t able to do before FASTER than learning them by yourself. It may cost a bit of money, but you will be able to learn these things faster. You`ve also got people learning the exact same thing, so you wont feel like you`re the only one. The coaches can very easily help and demonstrate.
