Dry Sockets

Before I start, I searchbared and couldn't find much on this so:

I just got my wisdom teeth out and I now think i've gotten a dry socket.  It's so painful and the super trippy painkillers( they were crazy I stared at the walls and it moved and stuff)  i got for my teeth are doing nothing. Has anyone had dry socket? Is there anyway to stop the pain? Was there anything you could do or did you just have to wait it out? Thanks xx

i feel your pain.  i got all four of my wisdom teeth out when i was 11.  fucking sucks!  my face was mad swollen.  basically just chill and take any medicine that they gave you.  it turns out my wisdom teeth regenerated so i have to get them out again.  hope you feel better

Dry socket fucking sucks. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth taken out about a month ago and it hurt so bad I ran out of the pain meds they have me so I went into my dad's stuff and meds for kidney stones, shit, I was flying high and trying to chew air.

They gave me advil for my wisdom teeth....and no sorry go back to your doc if you think you have dry socket and get it checked out, I think they put a dressing in there to limit the pain.

i gotta call shenanigans. there is no way he would be able to withstand the pain of having teeth ripped out of his jaw. i think this is one of those "i had to walk in the snow everyday to school and it was uphill both ways" stories

You would be surprised, my mom gave birth to my brother with no pain killers and what not. (military base in the 80's )

Yeah, honestly withstanding nerves being cut in your mouth or exposed nerves etc... in your teeth is unbearable.

in 8th grade my friend shot my in the mouth with a airsoft gun and the pellet went through my lip and broke my front tooth in half. Emergency root canal etc... shit was no fun. Breathing in cold air to the exposed tooth felt like awfulness haha.

the little injections are a form of an anesthetic. they are just like getting a cavity filled.

wisdom teeth suck. i was semi-unconsciouss and came to when the doctor said we have to break this one, and then i passed out again. woke up three hours later at home and my stepdad had to go to a meeting so he hadn't come home with pain killers yet.
luckily i didn't get any infections.
Brooke- go get it checked out! nothing bad would come out of that!

Shit. I've been prolonging getting all 4 out for a while, and i'm going to continue doing it

2 are badly impacted too, so i'll have a date with the oral surgeon.

I have gotten super lucky so far... my wisdom teeth haven't even moved into position or whatever to be even close to be needed out. Only a matter of time though :/

ya ive prolonged mine for like 3 years longer then I should..Havent been to the dentist in over a year, Im gonna keep avoiding it haha, im still breathing right?

im lucky mine are all coming in straight except for one and its only coming in at a slight angle and my dentist said it should come in fine.

i feel so lucky though hearing about having em pulled sucks, shit sounds awful

The worst pain I ever had in my life was "dry sockets". TERRIBLE.

Don't let those suckers get infected! mine got infected twice. I did everything right rinsed with salt water cleaned my mouth often and the bastards still got infected. It hurt so damn bad.

Ugh dry sockets horrible, I just had it this summer. Call up the place where you got your wisdom teeth taken out and you'll have to set up a time for them to check it out. They put in this funky tasting dressing, it helps with the pain some, but it still sucks. After that its a waiting game, they say it can start getting better in a day or all the way up to 2 weeks, I think mine lasted for about a week and a half.

when i got my mine out it didn't hurt to bad while the whole process was going on but after the healing process took place my tongue was literally numb for 6 months on one half of my tongue due to some nerve damage/ prolonged anesthetic it was cool for a day or two then got motherfucking annoying....

Thanks for the help. Went to the surgeon today, have a bad infection so glad its not a dry socket.

My teeth were pretty screwed up two were impacted and the other two were growing backwards.

people react different. after i got all four of mine out i was out drinking that night no swelling bruising or dident get the dry socket. but my one budie got his out and he was KO for a week his hole face blew up and was black and blue

I'm probably fucked when I get my wisdoms pulled cause some people in my family get teeth that weld to bones and i had to get surgery to get six out.

With dry sockets I heard those are suposed to hurt like hell. pretty sure you get them if you used anything with straws or sucked on something or your just really unlucky, I had to watch out for them after I had six teeth pulled. I think theyre air pockets under your gums or something.

yeah that's all they gave me when i got 2 of my wisdom teeth out. just a Novocain to deaden the area around the teeth. didn't hurt at all, granted my wisdom teeth were through the gums. it wasn't bad and the best part was when the dentist was ripping out my teeth you could hear the tooth ripping out from inside you. pretty neat sounds and a shit load of blood. it's best to go into it high and with music. seriously, music was the key. i just put on some relaxing type music and let the dentist do his thing. dry sockets on the other hand I have not had but my friend had one. he said it hurt, went to the dentist and the pain was gone in a few days. so just go back to your dentist

I had two on the lower wisdom teeth. Its extremely rare to get dry sockets on the upper ones. There is one key to getting your wisdom teeth out that WILL make or break your experience. ICE! My mother kept all her kids on a strict, I mean STRICT icing schedule. 20 minutes on 20 minutes off. Never stopped. She even  woke up once in the middle of the night to change them while we slept. What a trooper! What happened with me was that it took 3 doses of the stuff to knock me out during surgery. When I woke up i puked blood. The Hydrocodone would not sit well with me, so im glad i iced as much as i did.
ICE ICE ICE!!!

I did that too. was soo disgusting! But I got the anastetic in my arm in an injection.

yeah thats what i mean. I took three doses. three separate injections of that shit to knock me out. But during the healing process I couldn't take the hydrocodone (vikaden off brand). it sucks.

I'm a little more evolved than the common human in that I only have 3 wisdoms, but the two on the bottom I'm POSITIVE have no room to come in, because its already too crowded on my lower jaw as it is... the one i have on my upper jaw though? funny enough, I'm actually able to use it... it came in not too long ago, and other than annoying ulcers while it was coming in, it wasnt that bad.

i'll still take it out if i take the bottom two out though... it would probably be an easy pull, seeing as its already in and everything.

i had something similar when i got teeth pulled to make room for braces
my dentist took a anitseptic(sp) and covered gauze with it
then i inserted it into the socket and changed it daily for a few days everything went away
