SHIN BANG again!!!

I have tried everything to get rid of it and I have Salomon foil boots, they are perfect size I have custom footbeds, I have done the icing every night and also put some sports rap where I get the shin bang under my boots. None of this helps, It still feels like my shins were hit with a FUCKING hammer. So would it help if I got Booster straps, Or should I just get Salomon spks either the kreations or kaos, and  Fulltilts are to much and it is hard to find a good price that is a size 30.5. Also my stance is not to far forward or to far back I am perfectly centered, It just really hurts when I ski pow or when I land funny, It is almost impossible to butter or ollie/nollie on to rails and such, PLEASE help me out.

do your feet move in your boot?
like if you stand up in your boot, in your skis
can you move your leg forward and backwards without moving the boot?
if so, how much, and which direction?

ive dealt with shin bang my whole life, and to tell you the truth, 2 years ago, i got dalbello's, they made it like 3 times better and this year i took the plunge and got FT's, they really are as good as people say in terms of shin bang, imho

try using the powerstrap under the plastic. directly against the liner. or get some intuition liners for those shits.

Full Tilt, plus heres a tip. Your problems are: Landing back seat or flat landings, or you have too much room in your cuff area. Cut the top half off of a sock, place it around your shin and crank your boot strap. That'll make it tighter. You want that shit tight. I have also placed a mouse pad around my shin... no more shin bang.

i don't ski a ton but even so i got minor shinbang if i skied a couple days in a row.  i started putting my buckles to the loosest settings possible where they'd still stay clipped and not come undone and my shins have been fine.  i just skied 5 out of 6 days (a lot for me!) and my shin bang was minimal.  if you want, try this out.

i was getting it really bad and all i did was use really think socks (i was using socks that had built in shin pad) and tighten it as much possible without being uncomfortable and i was fine

you probably don't have much meat on your calves I'm guessing. Try doing some calf raises and foot raises daily. This will also help relieve some of the pain associated with shin bang. Stretch your calves too.

i have FT's which realllly helped me. but im going to suggest booster straps and put them under the cuff against the liner and tightn them mutha fuckas.

we need to fix shinbang as a whole. and i feel like NS is a perfect place for ideas.

If you want to get rid of shinbang land more foreward and less back, and stop skiing pow on centered skis because you're probably tailgunning which is probably causing shinbang in part.

You could also try booster straps, but the key is to learn to land and ski better. I only got shinbang my first year in the park. Try to ride your tails less.

Booster straps man, ive been running some atomic m11s from last year. I had a FEW shin bang problems, then someone suggest booster straps. I got them and only had my first shin bang last night really out of 40+ days of skiing. Pretty good considering m11s are a all mountain/ almost racing boot.

my suggestion is the kaos boot because theyre pretty cheep..i have the kaos and ive never gotten shinbang and i just wear ankle socks and i land in the backseat 90% of the time. U can get last years for cheep. but if not the kaos get full tilts they are amazing my friend has them and they do live up to all the hype. my 2 cents..

Shin Bang and Shin splits are different. And, yes, you can get shing bang from your boots. I, for example, am quite bow legged. Therefore, when I flex into a boot, my legs don't follow the same path that a boot normally flexes. This was causing my outer shin bones to flex oddly into my boots giving me extraordinary shin pain, and even dark purple bruising. My boot fitter adjusted my boot so that it flexes outward more to compensate. This makes a big difference.

Honestly though the best thing I did for shin bang was custom liners. I went with Surefoot/conformable foam injection liners. $$$ but money. With these and footbeds I can run a super small shell and stuff my foot into with zero pressure points. Throw in a booster strap and my foot/leg doesn't move at all even with the boot barely buckled. Now, I can ski as hard as I want with minimal shin bang, now the only pain I get comes from the occasional back seat landing.

im workign as a physical therapist tech and i asked one of the PTs what I could do for my shinbang and she said that along with calf raises and icing you can use therabands and put them around ur foot and pull the bands towards you to help.  Im gonna see what other excercies they suggest.

Yea I got a there band that I use,  TOE RAISES are the shit for strengthening these muscles.  Lean against a wall with feet about a foot away and shoulder width apart.  also, walk with toes in the air

just eat vicodin for the rest of the season. if you've got it as bad as you say, you probably aren't getting rid of it without a few months off of the hill. happened to me last season. i definitely feel your pain man.

I have SPK's and never gotten shin/calf bang before and I usually do the top buckle at a comfy/barely snug level.  I recently tried cinching them super tight because I thought it would help with butters and more precise control, but after landing slightly backseat off a jump once I got THE worst calf bang ever.  It felt like my calves were shot with a 9mm.  I couldn't even hit any jumps after that day it was so painful.  I got a huge purple bruise that lasted about a week and some deep deep aches in my calf muscle. 

Everyone says ratchet your buckles as tight as you can, but for me it works to get them just to the point of snug.  I have crazy shaped calves though, they look like baseballs bulging out under my skin.

there is no difference in full tilt, spk, rampage.....or any alpine race boot. seriously, they are the same thing, same technology, same design. you can  adjust your forward lean, but this wont cure your bang.

shin bang is the least of the problem i see. you have pro skiers breaking legs in half and ripping knees apart. this is a serious problem at this point.

if one fits you then the other won't, maybe the reason everyone on here gets "shin bang" is because they buy horribly wrong fitting boots because they are popular on the internet.

generally they are popular on the internet because they're a good boot and the spk's work for me so I was just throwing my opinion out there. what he should probably do is go see a boot fitter and let them give a selection of boots to choose from.

FULL TILT!!

On my last boots, I tried literally everything including milling the tongue, fitting the boot to my foot, cushioning my shin.... It would get a little better but I stll couldnt ski for more than 4 or 5 successive days.

My brother even went to a boot fitter and got a custom designed boot for 700 Euro. And even this didnt help

So i got myself fulltilts just as everybody said they were so sick.. well my shinbang is gone!!! even if you land really backseated it doesnt hurt - only make sure you tighten your boot as tight as you can

Ive got a question, it might be a total gaper question.

Ive got a pair of Spk kaos and i get some shinbang, the kind u get from rubbing ur shins to the front (hair on my shin is dissapearing) and some brusing on my shin.

Now: is there a diffrence in order of closing your buckles?
I get the idea when i buckle up the top ones first and then the lower ones the shell flexes smoother.
instead of closing the lower ones first, that gives me the feeling the boot is way more rigid and stuff.

OK thats all well and good and im sure those are component of it (cuting out backseat landings especially), but then how do you explain my case and some other peoples' cases where they had shin bang until they tightened their upper boot buckles and the strap above them? from my experience the less room your leg has to move, the less prone you are to having shinbang. so, if you have strong musces and don't usually land backseat, there may be a problem with your equipment. in other words, If you french fry when you should pizza, youre gonna have a bad time.

what i experience yet: i had some salomon boots, and i got shinbang, then i got spk kaos (salomon too) and the shinbang was not that bad anymore, thought the spk boots are not for tight foods (i have) so i get some toebang when i land backseat! next season i will try FT, really wanna know if it's better!

another problem: i'm really tall (192cm), so i think (physiks) with a long leg, the distance from the end of the boot to ur knee (which is the length that presses on the end of the boot) is much longer and so u get more shinbang when ur tall...

I only really started feeling shin bang this year and so I havn't really gotten creative with preventing it but thick socks or extra padding between tighter boots works for me.

Ice, heat, and exercises to get rid of the shin splints are going to be necessary no matter what you do to your boots. Booster straps and proper care have prevented me from having any sort of shin bang over the last five or so years.

FULL TILTS OR SPKS ARE NOT A PANACEA FOR SHIN BANG.
