I'm guessing you will buy a used car.  If you want a cheap used car, don't buy any American car.  They were built at very low standards until a year or two ago.  Subaru is recommended so much because they are so good.  Subaru, Toyota, and Honda are all brands worth looking in to.  A Subaru Outback is killer.  I believe a Toyota Tacoma would be good or like a 4Runner.  I think Honda CRVs are cool.

get a hatchback for sure, unless you are goin for the roofrack. but remember, hatchback is balla status, and a quick place to sleep. if you get the roof rack/hatchback deal goin on, its twice as nice, tons of space for gear, and more room for beeps. oh yea, and room for subs.

vans are really fun to own and if your driving up to the hill u can always just squezze some gas money out of ur passengers since fuel economy will not be great, usually isn't horrible tho since they really are just boxes on wheels.

i got a VW jetta tdi wagon that gets like 40-50 mpg and was cheap and sick
it's only 2wd but with studded snow tires it doesn't feel like it

Of-fucking-course. Everyone with the subarus.

But yes. They are very ideal cars for snow, driving etc... I would recommend one. I really like my Grand Cherokee, it slays the snow like babies slay gerber baby food.

Its not that I hate subarus, its just everyone on this site kinda creams their pants every time the s bomb is dropped.

That being said get a cheap ass jeep or a small truck like a used Ranger or S-10. They are great for anything, are good in snow, and wont rape you on gas mileage, plus insurance will be cheaper than a subaru.

i say vans because you can fit more of your peeps in for the ride, just throw a ski box on top. get a used Chrysler or GM van and you'll be able to take 7-ish people with you instead of 3.

But COME ON! They last forever, are great in the snow, great on gas, not pricey to fix, and are completely reliable.

A lightweight pickup is a great ski vehicle.  I have a chevy 1500 with a cap on the back.  Keeping your gear in the back out of the cab keeps the moisture out. If you buy a car, you should invest in a roof rack, which can be pricey.  Also, if you get a truck, it will most likely have better ground clearance for deep snow.  Even though subaru's have AWD, being lighter and having less ground clearance could get you in trouble with deep stuff.

Looks are just preference. I like the wrx better. And I don't like how it's more posh, sacrificed on performance. Just get a real WRX, not much more expensive if at all.

i got a 95 pathfinder and i really like. i wanted a subi or a 4runner but i got my nissan for really cheap from a friend and its really reliable. also it slays in the snow and its easy to sleep in!

my first car and my car still is a 1984 Bronco 1 with the 351 clevland engine in it.  the thing is a bitch on gas but good, consistent, and easy to repair yourself.

word, my old 9k cs with coopers was a beast, but this asshole nailed me at a stop light and totalled my baby. but now im in a 2000 9-3 its still really good in the snow.

i wanna Tx sportcombi, too bad they are like 40k

They actually aren't completely identical, though the numbers are pretty darn close. I still prefer the more aggressive suspension of the WRX than the 9-2x and the extra accessories aren't anything to note for me at least. To each their own though!
