BackCountry Skiing vs. My Mom

Today I mentioned the word 'back country' to my mom... bad idea. I've been into the BackCountry here in BC and fine, but she has this completely paranoid view of the back country, her views are all provided by Global News that she watches for an hour each day, 5+ days a week.

It's so fuckin stupid, just cause 20 people are mentioned on the news doesn't mean only 20 people go into the backcountry and they all die. I'm like 'Yeah but I've been there before' and she's all worried and shit, and I try to explain to her that I read the avalanche bulletins and know where the danger is and I actually know where I'm skiing, she has no idea and just assumes I'm going Big Mountain skiing in Alaska with big avalanches and shit.

Anyone else have this problem? She says if I need to be rescued I'm paying for it (obviously), but she'll be annoying me for a long time now.

Thought I'd share the stupidness.

give her the stats of people that die in car accidents, and other big killers, then she won't be worried about you skiing bc, but then again, you probably won't be able to leave the house, if i know your mom, like i know your mom. You know how i know her... just call me pops. Anyway backcountry can be dangerous, learn our stuff about slides, fractures, snow packs, always have a transciver and shovel, and ride with another person.

I just don't call my mom for a couple of weeks, and then she's forgotten all about the stuff I do skiing, and more concerned about whether or not I'm 'eating well' and 'feeling ok'. Works everytime.
