what should my din be?

im 5'9 120 and change, i ski 50 park 50 all mountain i ski hard but not super hard, i do rails, jumps the whole 9, i dunno if it will help but i have lifters on my skis, line mike nicks, if u need any more info tell me, my din now is 6 and towards the end in the back, the max my din can go is 7.5 so any help is good

it all depends on how easily you want them to release. I am 190 lbs so a din of 6 would make me pop out of the bindings off any small jump. But, since you weigh much less it could be perfect. Start lower, and if you pop out too much you can raise it a bit. Just remember too high of a din = no knees

ok so all u have to do to change is screw the top and bottom parts of the binding?

can i go 5.5 or should i stay at a whole # like 4,5,6

yea i do my own too, but thats because i know what im doing. i work with bindings... they got a whole chart which determines what your din setting should be at. if you take it to the shop, and the guys are cool and thats all ya want em to do, most of the time they will do it for free

but i dont need a pro. to screw the binding to the right din all i need to do is just screw it left or right to the right number, like i guess i will try it at 5 and see how it goes, do i need a pro for that?

start the season off with the suggested DIN for your weight and skiing ability (not sure what that is but you can ask a shop) i just got new bindings and they are set at a 6 and i weigh 140lbs. granted i will be cranking them up to a 8 or 9 but im gonna start my season off with the 6 and go up from there. and when you change your din, only go up 1 at a time dont do anything drastic

ok, listen, bring your skis to a shop, the reason they're pros is because they know what they're doing. yes you need to do is turn the screw, but you also need to figure out what the number is, and that's the shop guys job. most shops will adjust the din for free. and even if they charge you a few $s it's not worth tweakin your knee, and dont trust the people on here with your knee's health, if you screw up your knee now, then it will be a pain in the ass till you're old and grey

Quit telling this kid to go to a shop. Shop guys can only put him to the # on the chart for class III because of liability. If you're skiing park, you will need a stronger setting because of the forces put on your bindings during take-off and landing. What I do is just go out and spend a day in the park early season. If I pre-release, I'll go up a half, or full setting, and on a powder day, I usually go two settings higher than the shop setting because I fall alot, and digging for your skis sucks when suckers are tracking out your line.

So dude, trial and error, start low, and if you come out just crank up a noch. You do need a shop for fitting the boot to the binding, but after taht, wrench on the DINs as much as you want. Your bindings only go to 7.5, so your leg won't fall off, but I'd reccomend abnout a 5.5 or 6.

go to a shop. i dont care what other people say about all it is is turning a screw. its way more than that. DIN takes into account your skiing ability, height, weight, age, and bootsole length, so its more than just cranking your bindings so you dont come out. not once did someone above mention that if you have a small boot you can put a lot more torque on the binding. if you have a bigger boot, you need a lower seeting, because a bigger boot puts less torque on the binding. also, if you have salomon bindings, you need to have your toe height and wing adjustments right, otherwise you will be cranking your bindings and it will have no effect whatsoever in the toe, but your heel will be way too high. so yeah, pay the $15 at most and get it done by someone who knows what they are doing, most decent shops should test everything on a huber machine to make sure everythig works correctly as well

the shop charts are all low so they dont get sued... but the top screw is forward pressure, not din.

I was at 7 today and i had to crank it to 10 because mine were popping off alot. Brand new look p 14's too. Im only 5'6 130 so you should have them around 8 or 9.

crystal,if you're talking about the top screw on the toepiece of a salomon binding, you should know that it's actually toe height adjustment. The little screw on the side of the wing is wing adjustment(sometimes on both, the ones with one adjust both wings simultaneously. I think only 914s have two, and that might have changed in the past year or two). As for forward pressure, it's usually controlled by a little tab on the back of the heel piece that moves the heelpiece forward and back.

The point of all this? Bring your bindings to a shop and have them do it.

of course, none of this matters because your piece of shit junior bindings probably only have a forward pressure adjustment. But since you don't know how to deal with that either, you need to get a shop to do it.

Adamskinick, Ive worked in a shop for ever, youd need to rate your skiing from 1 to 3+. then i could figure out you setting, but to me it sounds like you need new bindings, you are to close to maxing them out. you should be in between 1/2 to 2/3 of the max setting on the binding.

everyones DIN is personal man its like asking someone random how to screw your girlfriend (or boyfriend for the few ladies on here) get it set in a shop and if you keep poping out adjust them util you find something that works just don't tweak them down hard and get hurt cuz that would suck

You shouldn't need to set your DIN high if you're skiing properly. They're designed with certain loads in mind. If you ski in the back end then you'll always be near that limit for the heel peice so it will want to eject mroe often. Stay centered, ekep din in the middle of the range. If its too high then the spring is really stressed, this is a serious issue if the highset din on your bindings is like 10 or 12. It is personal preference but if you're going to be crashing hard, don't crank them up too high or they won't release when you land and you'll torque and twist and strain your ligaments.

i actually just bought new bindings and yes they go to 7.5 unfortunately but thats all i could afford, i received it back from the shop at a 5 din, and in the back the marker thing was towards the end. i marked on the form a III skier ability to i will try this, and bring a little screwdriver when i ski. if i pop out a lot i will go to 6

just a thought, I'm 5' 7'' and about 240, I run my DIN's at 8 in the early season, usually 10 most of the time and between 12 and 14 if I don't want them to let go.

Also, I have literally pulled my foot (vertical) out of a 6.5, and can standing still, torq out (twist) both toe in and toe out a DIN set to 11.

Best bet, asses your abilities honestly, and go to a shop. Let them set em first. If they need to be tighter, talk to the shop guys and see what they think. Also, if need be, go tighter in .5 increments. The last thing you want is to be too tight and mess yourself up.

Also, I know it was said earlier, but I recomend (and practice this as well) keeping you DIN setting in the 1/2 -2/3 max of the binding. I do not like maxing out the spring.

Also, a good preventative measure for binding failure and breakdown, is to not carry un-bagged skis on top of a car, the road salts can damage the springs. If you have no other choice, at least wrap your bindings in garbage bags.

Its based on how well you ski. If youre 3 Id go with about a 6.5-7.

Im at 7 and Im 5'8 160lbs. I dont like coming out for no dumb reason unless I go down though.

i am like the exact same size as you, maybe a bit shorter and i got mine between 8 or 9. it is perfect, they only come off when they need to. i dont need my skis poppin off if i land a little crooked

when ever i get my bindings mounted i let the shop set up the din because they know the right weight to skill to din equasion then when i get on the hill next i crank them up another 2 or 3 depending on the feel of the release, the shops tune them down for insurance reasons, be careful though ... TRUST ME... better to release premature than to not release at all
