Don't be scared of heading over to europe because of the language barrier. You will find that in many of the best places english is the common language due to the cosmpolitan nature of the people there.
My recommendations, in no particular order, for europe are as follows...
Engelberg, Ch (Switzerland): really small town vibe- super chilled and the people that live there are true skiers- lots of scandinavians... awesome big mountain skiing, no park and not much crazy nightlife though...
Verbier, Ch: A really good all around option this- great big mountain, decent park, big nightlife, people from all over- lots of brits, scandis, aussies etc. Only downside is expense- $$$
Val d'Isere/Tignes, France: Pretty much the same deal as Verbier, except more snow-sure. Great all-around skiing and nighlife but again, $$$$. Tignes is cheaper to live in , but less happening.
Mayrhofen, Austria: Really good all-around experience, good skiing and more park-orientated- includes the Hintertux glacier park in the autumn. Again, very cosmpolitan town and perhaps cheaper than some of the others.
Innsbruck, Austrai: More of an actual town than the others which are more like resorts. Has access to some great skiing at a load of places around, plus if you prefer the bigger town vibe then this would suit you.
Chamonix, France: Cham has a vibe quite unlike anywhere else in the Alps- here is the home of really hardcore skiers. Lots of testosterone, lots of scandis, lots of beards, lots of people who pretend to be hardcore but actually aren't. It's a pretty intense atmosphere but it could be for you, plus it's a pretty big place...
