Street skiing question

so im a huge park rat when it comes to skiing, especially love hittin a nice smooth rail or box. the only problem is i recently moved to a bigger city (rochester NY) and the closest mountain with a decent park is like 2 hours away. so i figured i would try some urban street skiing out. im really just looking for any pointers on doin this shit. like how far a run up would need to be to get good speed, any methods to gettin more speed then jus usin your poles and skis,

i inline so i know of a metric shit ton of spots that would be sick but in my opinion i dont think i could get enough speed on skis instead of skates. any help is awesome and +k

a lot of times you need to use a pole whip, where a couple buddies hold one of your poles (each) and slingshot you at the rail, works pretty damn well for most uses but its sort of a last resort, id much rather just skate and push myself into it

Hey dude I live in Rochester too.  Ski at Bristol Mountain, it's only like 45 mins away from you and way legit.  www.bristolmt.com

you have a bunch of different options depending on where you are, the thing with urban is that u have to be creative to have fun and often times it means being creative with speed so you can actualy hit the rail. here are some tricks I know

1: building a starter : a slope made of wood usualy, with stairs... make sure you can cary it around

2: the pole boost from friends where they hold on to the end of your poles and pull or even run besides you. This usualy needs a starter

3: the car boost: you place yourself so that the car or trucks bumper is on your ass and you are facing forward. The car accelerates slowly, pushing you, and stopping a bit before the rail. this can give you a lot of speed but is scary.

4: pully system: you set up a car driving away from the rail with a cord attached to it. this cord goes through a metal railing near the rail or on it and you hold on to it. The rail serves as a pivot and gives you all of your speed.

5: speed bumps: if you can get a long run up that is not too steep, set up a series of rollers( bumps) that you will use to pump for speed

6:regular towe: get a sled or 4 weeler or car to towe you
