So... Ski trivia, Who invented the 'Pretzel'??

The first time i remember seeing one done fresh to the max, was Corey Vanular in Shanghai Six - I was like " Whoa, he span on the rail one way and then span off the other!!" Yeah that made me pumped, Like a dog on steroids.
But of course we all know Mr. Wallisch brought these salted goods of delight to the masses...

So, who landed the first one (on camera) ((Vid or it didn't happen)), I expect to see, at some point, someone post a vide of Mike Douglas doing one back in Ski Movie 1.

Vanular did the first real pretzel that I ever saw.

Heed, Crichhton and some other folks did sw 270 on pretzel out before that.

on skis...i think it was corey. i remember an edit wiht some dude in a chicken suit and corey, doing pretzels. came out the year S6 was filmed.

ive seen very few snowboarders do true pretzels(270 to 270). sal rubio is the only guy i can think of. and nick pooch. maybe magoon.

the snowboarder term pretzel means front 270 out

Is this going to be like who invented the ski grab? Lots of people can try to take or give credit for it but, I don't think there's any way to tell who really did it first.

I think who "invented" is the wrong phrase, but who was the first skier to try a pretzel would work better. Still going to be hard to figure out.

I first remember seeing them being done around 99 or 2000 on skis. Guys like Evan Raps, Philou, Skogan, and Anthony Boronowski were doing crazy rail stuff back then.

First one I ever saw in person was Gravity Games Rail Jam in Downtown Frisco 04/05 season.  It was a step up gap to a flat single barrel.  He lost the rail jam to a switch 450 disaster by Tim RusselI.   I was blown away by Corey's pretzel though, and it should have won imo.  The shot was used in SH6.  Others may have done it earlier, but on that setup, doing a front 270 pretzel on a single barrel was off the chain.

wow look at the comments! that's hella gnar. nobody knew what a pretzel was and hardly anyone acknowledged it. i think it's interesting that people were really impressed by the 270 into the pipe (and they were calling it a 360) and the fact that nobody knew to call it a pretzel so they were just saying 270 on reverse 270 out and stuff like that hahaa
