New ski sizing

I'm 5'10" and weigh 140.
The few skis I've been looking at have 159, 169, and 179 cm options.

I would say that 179's would be the best cause i am 5.7" and i am riding 175's.

really? my dad keeps saying i want as short as possible so there easier to spin and not as heavy. so I'm guessing that is not right is it?

first off, what will u be using these skis for?
second which skis are u considering?

yes longer skis are harder to spin but not much difference with lower swing weight in new freestyle skis.
if you feel you can control a longer ski go for it! its better for backcountry and pow...
either way you will get used to what you get and learn to appreciate it...
In my opinion the length of your skis should be anywhere from your nose to 2 -3 inches above your head...

You generally want skis the same height as you. 5'10" is 178cm so that's perfect for you. I'm assuming you're still going to grow a little bit if your dad has input on which skis you buy which is perfect because 179 won't be too short even if you grow a couple inches.
