He had in my opinion a really sick breakout section in strike three last year just destroying every rail and his part in the bonus section was the best... anyways his section is forward was pretty decent too but i was really hoping fopr him to become more well known this year cause this kid is sick... wehat do you guys think?
What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?

i think he needs to do some jumping, you shouldn't have parts if there all rails, i haven't seen forward so i dunno if he's changed that.

umm, thats what skiing needs, an all rail part

i say fuck it to anyone who says skiers need to be more well rounded, that will kill the sport, what skiing needs is disciplines, people to excel at certain parts of their sport and not be average in every part, look at snowboarding, you get guys who only hit rails, you get guys who only hit park, and you get the guys who won't touch anything but pow

skating is a better example , street vs vert? steet skaters dont' touch vert, plus vert sucks to watch(my opinion),

same for skiing, i don't like ti when some big mountain guy is having an interview and says skiers need to be more well rounded, fuck that, its 'freeskiing' we can do whatever the hell we want to, whether ir not visit a mountain for a whole year and only hit rails, or take it to the backcountry, that 'well rounded' shit is fis talking

how does this relate to emil coty? well, if he wants to do rails for his whole part? props to him he probably enjoys them and so we should let him do whatever the hell he wants rather then preching about how he should go to the backcountry. hes progressing the sport.

oh and for well ruonded skiers? i see SOME big mountain guys always saying the young skiers should be more well rounded, well i think rails and jumps constitute a large part of skiing now, maybe they should learn those before they start talking about being well rounded,

I think having all rails section is pretty cool. Emil had one last year and Derek Finn had one this year. Both of them were good segments.

But not as good as Scott Hibbert's section this year in Forward. Talk about progression, most progressive video segment ever!

^^^ Yes I know what you meen. you have a really good point. But like Cr Johnson said in his Freeskier interview, lots of these kids are 'professional jibbers' and not 'professional skiers'. But what is skiing? People say rails arent skiing, and that skiing down the side of a mountain is skiing. And that to be well rounded you have to do everything. i guess everyone has a opinion on what skiing really is, but for me personally, i think skiing is sliding and having fun, whether its on snow or steele. Wutever, if someone is just doing rails, and progressing further then other 'well rounded' skiers in that disipline, then more power to him. Progression is progression.

i think if you have skis on your skiing, if your hittin rails your skiing.. your using your skis to get u from one spot to another, and i think that it is sick what some people are doing with handrails

i'd like to add something to this thread:

the thing that REALLY fucking ticks me off is all the guys that run their mouths about how people should be skiing more sick lines and taking more tricks to the backcountry and shit, and that that is where the real leaders of the sport are going.

well fuck you, if i had a company putting me in a helicopter or buying me a snowmobile i'd be right the fuck out there skiing with them. it's not my fault i can't pay for that shit or ski where i want to. and it's DEFINITELY not my fault that i don't have someone following me around 24/7 with a camera to film everything i do. it just so happens that there are camera crews when we set up gnarly rails, but no one to film when it dumps 2 feet of fresh and we go kill it.

i think it sucks that i had to have an all rail section this year. i've been skiing for 19 years and hitting rails for barely the last 3, yet now i'm starting to get the stigma of being a railslider. thats fucking ridiculous that anyone can be a judge on a minute long ski segment.

the only good thing is that at least all those guys in the industry are my friends and we actually just 'ski' together, without cameras and crews etc.. so they know i'm not some one hit wonder, but for the general public that only sees my tiny little video segment or reads my interview in a magazine that tries to play me up as a railslider, then i'm basically shit out of luck and will be branded with the title of an urban rail slider that can't ski.

well, once again to all you people that fit that category: fuck you and suck my dick, because skiing is my life no matter what you say or think, because all that matters is what i know...

I remember Finn throwing massive 3s over a transfer and super nice corked 3's on some glacier, check his vids.

But about all-rail sections or all-jump or whatever...

I think if you're going to put a rider in a movie, put the whole rider in it, they want to showcase their skills, not just where they excel. It's disappointing to watch something where you know the person kills it all over but because they're #1 at urban stuff they'll 'just add that'.

haha, but anyways unless u ski with people or have seen everything they do on film you cant judge their riding abi;lity, and if someone said that all finn does is slide rails, based on his forward seg, then u should probably go buy strike three cause he has some pretty ill jumps there

Yeah, I mean when I saw strike 3 I was suprised to see all rails in Emil's segment, but i knew for a fact that theres no way the guy just kills it on rails i mean its common sense. Just b/c someone's segment is all one thing absolutely doesnt reflect their entire riding abilities. I mean come on would Emil be sponsered by DNA, Volkl,Smith, and Auclair just cause he can grind rails? I think not. Although I could be wrong........

ive never actually met emil but ive talked to people that know him and they say that he never skis on a real mountain.... its good that this year he had at least 2 tricks and that 3 was pretty sick......i was super bummed out to see finn not having some jumps in his part cuz he has so much style and just kills it

i like his rail section. what i say is don't fuckin judge anybody anyways. why even go about labeling anybody? think of it on a lower level. if someone does a sick rail, think of it as he did a sick rail. not as 'i wonder what he can't do on mountains'. it's not like any of the people in the l1p movies really ski for anybody but themselves anyways, so watever they want to do they can go ahead and do.

except big mountain is not what our pros r getting famous for in the x games they dont do big mountain so being an all round skier in our line of skiing doesnt include big mountain skiing thats just an option

People always make the stupid assumption that if they don't see you skiing on a 10000 plus high mountain that you can't ski. That is just stupid and to say that someone can't ski 'a real mountain' that is even stupider. What do you think they just strap on skis hit a rail and hope for the best with never having any other skiing experience in their life? These big names in skiing have been skiing since they were little and weren't jibbing since then, they were just flat out skiing. They have skills in so much more than on jumps and rails. Most of the big names in skiing can ski 'a real mountain', whatever the hell that statement is suppose to mean. A real mountain doesn't have to be 10000 feet in elevation with 60 foot cliffs to jump off of.

so if you only ski rails and dont ski anything else or can't ski anything else, you are a skier eh? How can you consider a person that only slides rails a skier when they could easily just take off the skis and hit the rails with soaps or rollerblades? Rail sliding is sick as hell but i agree with mogulbarron and emil that skiers shouldnt only focus on rails, they are a stylish part of skiing but they are a part.

qubec skier don't be a dumb ass, hugo is a big mountain god. he can also do some kool tricks, to be an allround skier u need to be able to ski: ski means turn properly with style edown any terrain that come at you. The majority of the east coast jibbers can't ski big mountain for shit, and they are considered pros thats bull shit. Jibbing is not real skiing it is jumping, it has a major part in the sport to play. But these kids who can't ski powder for shit and are considered pros need to wake up and learn to fukin turn. Also big mountain riding isn't going from cliff to cliff hucking your carcass of either thats hucking. Go watch the playground and watch how bad ianick b and louiew larose ski powder is absalutly pathetic. Don't get me wron ianic is a sick jibber but they need to learn how to ski.

Mogulbaron all I have to say is fuck you. You don't have to be a 'renaissance skier' and do every aspect of skiing to be pro. You know why people in the east don't ski big mountain you dumb shit? Cause there is no big mountain out here. Like Finn said some people don't have the money to pay for a Heli trip or a trip out to the west to ski what some call 'real mountains'. I guess in the east we don't even have mountains it's all just make believe. People see a kid hittin just jumps and rails in a video part and are like oh he's a park rat he can't even make a turn. If you're that good to hit jumps and rails that big I'm pretty sure they are a damn good skier too. This is one of the things I think is wrong in skiing today, you shouldn't have to do every aspect of skiing to be considered a good skier. Look at snowboarding do you think they make a big deal about it if someone just like to jump and grind rails in the park, no they don't. Just do whatever aspect of skiing you like and don't get so worked up about it if someone isn't takin there jumps to the big mountain. I'm done.

I don't understand why video segments have to show all aspects of a skiers ability...It is a video segment, it is meant to entertain the audience, with that said, you will show what is entertaining and make the segment unique.

The primary focus of the segment should show the athlete excelling at the discipline he does best or anything that will excite the audience. JP Walker is an amazing snowboarder but his segments are >90% rails because thats what he's best at. In the same respect, I'm sure Hugo Harrison can slide rails but thats not what he excells at...If he were to do a rail that is gnarly and on par with other rails in the nmovie then by all means put it in, otherwise you wouldn't expect to see 10 incredible big mountain lines followed by one average rail slide. Confused yet?

Any of the top guys can ski outside the park but if you asked them what they were best at, they wouldn't say it was skiing big AK lines...shouldn't segments show the very best of a rider's abilities?

Basically, a video segment needs to be taken for what it is...a few shots placed to music. It doesn't nor should it have to represent the combined, total, skiing and jibbing ability of the skier.
