SO I am incredibly stupid when it comes to epoxy...

I have no idea where to get good epoxy. I have no ideas what the numbers mean. I want something runny, that sets up at room temperature and has at least 30 minutes of working time. I have bought from snowboardmaterials.com and i know they are just reselling me stuff from another supplier. Where do you guys get your epoxies?

try west systems. very expensive. very good quality. nice low viscosity (thickness... lower numbers mean it's runnier). and it cures at room temp. also very easy to find because it's some of the most common stuff out there.

I went their site, checked their dealer locator and there happens to be a dealer in my town. Thanks alot. I didnt think anyone checked this cult anymore and i got a reply within hours.

Yeah, West systems is good and nice and easy to work with. Actually not too expensive either.
I use QCM. I like it, but it is very thick stuff. That is the only thing I do not like.
Jeffco is also a good supplier.

mhm. i was gonna mention jeffco. im trying to get some right now. i was really happy dealing with them, but i have to go through Composites One to actually get it, which is proving quite difficult. I hate that there are so few companies with what we need, so if we dont get the service from one place, there is nowhere else to go... stupid monopolies. if i ever manage to get it, i will let you know what i think... im pretty sure the viscosity is a bit lower than QCM (which is why ive chosen to go with the Jeffco - i want something basically as runny as i can get). the one im looking at (as well as most if not all QCM) requires heat.

well, i haven't had a chance to try it yet, but i have to say that ive been very impressed with Jeffco so far. really good quick responses to my emails and they sent me a huge sample for free with shipping and all covered. i got 16oz of resin and 4oz (i think) of hardener. that was difficult to explain at the border... and of course this had to be the time they decided to search my car. but ill let you know once i actually try it, but so far the experience has been good.

Sweet. Keep us updated. I personally use QCM, and i like it quite a bit. It's a bit harder to work with during layup, but on the plus side, it gives you more control with your pressure and how much epoxy is malleable. Does this make sense? If you have a thin epoxy, it's more subject to small variables in pressure change, temp, etc. A thicker epoxy will be easier to manipulate with your pressure: the more presser, the less epoxy stays in your ski. The less the pressure, the more epoxy stays in your ski. It's all just personal preference, but it seems logical to me, that if you are using a crude (not a factory production) press, you want to be able to be in control as much as you can. We will all have changes in our PSI throughout the pressing time, which may or may not do harm as to how much epoxy you will squeeze out.
