Money laundering is taking dirty money (ie. money from drug sales) and making it clean (return on investment). So the mob, for instance, would take the money they made doing illegal stuff, and convert it to legit money by using it at casinos, investing in companies, etc. That way, if the feds wanted to know where the money came from, it's all 100% legit.
