Pretzels definition

A pretzel is a spin out of a rail  spinning on the opposite direction of the way you actually got on the rail. It was at first a snowboarding manoeuvers and then we poached the name.
 In skiing, pretzels are a bit different since the  regular fs 270 out is a change of spinning direction.

basically if you want to do any kind of pretzels on skis, you have to spin at least 180 degree.
 so a siwtch up ( rotating 180 while sliding the rail) then psinning out the opposite direction is a pretzel spin out.

so  270 in spinning to the right and then spinning a 270 out to the left is a 270 in pretzel 270 out.

 right foot foward to fs switch up ( 180 to the right) tehn a 270 out to the left is a  fs switch up  pretzel 270 out.

450 on to the right  then 270 out to the left is 450 on pretzel 270

Ect

 switch on bs 270 out should not be  called a pretzel in the skiing  meaning of the words since there is no spins greater then 180 in it

You definitely have to spin at least 180 for it to be pretzel. Calling a reg on to fs 270 out a pretzel is just retarded...

If you only have to spin a 90, then about half of all tricks on rails are pretzels!  I can relate this to every kid called a slightly corked 720 a cork 720 for about 4 years, now everyone just calls it a 720, there is nothing extra to claim by calling it cork.  Now everyone wants to do a pretzel and if you can call a trick that you didn't actually do any real opposite spinning (like a 90 on front 270 out) a pretzel than you sound cool!  This is going to be a problem until every kid can 270 on opposite 270 out a handrail, and by then we'll call it 2 on 2 out.

hmm, so if i right 180 on to fakie 5050 and left 1 out is that still a pretzel? the spins are opposite, but the lock is totally different.

skiing and snowboarding are two different sports, if anyone  dont understand how names can change from sports to sports, then they should just think about it a bit more.

 skiing as many variations of rotation changes while snowboarding as noe, ever saw a snowboarder do a 270  to pretzel??

skiing is different and definitions are different,  I cant see anyone going fakie on skis since there is no  fakie stance in skiing if we use the skate/ snow definition.

Skiing fakie is in fact skiing backward should we call a fakie 360 a backward 360???? 

we adapted the names so it fit what we do.

not that hard to understand when you think about it for a couple seconds

i don't understand why it's so hard to understand?!

all it is is spin on one way, and off the other...getting in at least 270 degrees of rotation. WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT THAT?!?!

im feelin the "opp 270 out" idea better than pretzel. its just easier to say.


but my question is if the front swap to blind 27 out is the k-fed cause its so hot right now, does that make the blind swap to front 27 the britney spears? by the way if u are wondering who got her sister pregnant it might have been me the dna tests are still coming out.

the boys are right when they say that forward on frontside 270 out is pretzelly, by definition. no arguing that. if someone claims that trick as pretzel (or claims any trick) they should be punched in the balls.

that being said. forward on forward off. totally the best pretzel ever.

Agree with thread creator, he has it correct. 90 degree rotations do not count towards it being a pretzel.

ok, so you pretty much have to spin at least 540 it total and switch the rotation for it to be considered a pretzel?  cause left 270 on, right 270 out is a pretzel and left 90 on, switch up and then right 270 off is a pretzle and both of those add up to 540.. but if you left 90 on and right 270 out its not a pretzel and only adds to 360.

i think alot of people think that a pretzel is when you pop when your on a rail and spin but im guessing thats acutally a switch up. Everyone also thinks that tom wallisch invented the pretzel. idk if this is true i doubt it though tom just happens to be probaly the best rail rider EVER.

actually if you look at the grab, its pretty similair.

front hand to the middle or closer to back boot. which means if your goofy, your right hand is crossing your body and grabbing near your other foot. sorta similair to a mute.

and in snowboarding a pretzel does refer to a break in rotation, but it applies to what we would call Fs 2. so a front nose pretzel is a frontside noseslide with a downhill 270. since spinning 450 in snowboarding is much hard than in skiing because of less edge control, pretzel almost always refers to 2. also, it will probably never refer to 2 in 2 out for the same reason.

so if we wanna be technical about it, a Fs 2 out should be called a pretzel, but because theyre super easy in skiing, the name has applied to more difficult tricks.

pretzels are so dope but really hard. once you spin 270 on you have to lock so you can stop spinning and spin back around the other way really difficult to lock onto the rail.

in snowboarding u cant be nearly as tech with pretzels as on skis since on a snowboard u dont have a free foot to lock onto the edge of a box or a rail...so we can't use snowboard definitions for skiing pretzels...ask cal from 1bi2...i think switch in blind 360 switch up might deserve the name pretzel...

yup and yup. If you go reg on front swap front 2 out then it's a pretzel but not if it's just reg on front 2 out because you're only spinning 90 degrees to get on the rail

If i go 90 to the right getting on, don't switch it up on the rail and then come 270 out to the left, would that be regular on, pretzel 270 out?

Or how about if i went 90 on, but kept spinning on the rail and then right before i got off, changed my direction to a 270 out, that would be one too. Right?
