stop buying music. If everybody who snags tunes online doesn't buy any music, the industry would lose even more money and just maybe they will stop suing regular folks. Remember if your getting sued for fileswapping bring all of the CDs you've bought and match those against what they are charging you with. If you retain a copy of the music on a copyrighted disc they can't sue you for infringment unless some sort of transaction took place where goods where exchanged or there was finacial gain without permission from the copyrighted party. This they have to prove. I have a friend who is a lawyer so info is just a phone call away.

how can they sue only a couple of people for this? they aren't goin to get anywhere suing 1 person at a time. there are millions of people downloading music... its almost unstoppable unless they just sue the creators of kazaa, bearshare etc.

which they cant... dont ask me why but read an article explaining Kazaa itself cant be stopped. and the RIAA is suing the more prolific 'sharers', i.e computer games, extremely expensive software (3ds max) or blockbuster movies

the artists don't see that much from each album...the record companys get the majority of the money. a cd only costs 12 cents to make after studio costs and that shit

they cant stop kaaza cuz theres no central database its people connecting from software on their computer to software on someone else's. And what they are trying to get across with suing one person at a time is called a 'scare tactic' so other people fear they will be prosecuted aswell. the reason they targeted a 12 year old girl is for this very reason everyone will hear about it and talk about also it sends the message across that anyone is guilty not just older people.

i never feel bad about downloading music. who cares, mainstream music nowadays fucking sucks dick anyways. so the only place you can get good stuff is usually on a file sharing network. so i say fuck the RIAA and all the artists who make shitty music. they all can like my sweaty nutsack and rot in the bottom of a river.

the copy right law states that you cant download/steal/pirate sometihng, adn hten sell it for profit. its the same as pay per viw. you can record it, and whatever, but if you charge your friends admission to you house to watch it. thats when the law is broken.

I don't feel bad about downloading music, the music I download is typically the bands encouraging people to download their work to get known, that or bands who have enough money to buy themselves 9 cars and 5 houses. I will go out and buy the cd's to underground, local, and my favorite bands that I know need, and fully deserve every cent of their money. Although, I have kind of withdrawn from Kazaa, which, I know, is the RIAA's exact intentions but I have about 32 thousand files so it's a bit sketchy... lately I've been going to www.mp3.com and the mp3's go right into my music match jukebox.

Ok I have a few questions, first of all, is the RIAA doing all this shit on IMesh as well? or am I safe if Im using Imesh as opposed to kazaa? Also, if you arent sharing your songs but only downloading other peoples songs, can you get caught?

that picture is obviously a joke man..

but what's the big deal about downloadin music..i still buy a lot of cds..and i dont really downlaod that much..but a lot of the cds i've been buyin are from bands that i would've never heard of if i hadn't ever downloaded music..

and isn't the point of playing music for people to hear it?..i know you play for yourself..but dont you also play to entertain people?..and wouldn't you want more people to hear your music?..i dont understand how music is really a career choice nowadays..it seems like a lot of people are getting into music as a career..and when they dont get paid as much..they get mad..it's something you love..you shouldn't worry so much about the money that comes along with it..

dont' get me wrong..i'd love to play music for a living for the rest of my life..but i wouldn't expect that to be my only source of income..

I hate to say this, but if there aren't any CDs being bought that support a band that isn't that well heard of, but there is a ton of downloads. let's say the band is amazing, because no CDs are being bought they can't go on tour because they aren't making money. you wouldn't like it if you had a band that had a chance of making it, then couldn't because people were just downloading your music and not buying your CD. I used to download music, and I still do, I just get it from www.mp3.com. it's 'legal' and it supports the band. I'm not trying to incite an argument, just stating a point.

this is bullshit. I don't buy into the lie that the RIAA is handing out. I don't see the artists as victims.

The problem with the RIAA, artists, and anyone protesting against mp3s is that..

They fail to see the bigger picture here

MP3's allow a great deal of exposure to bands, and it INCREASES the interest in music.
Bottom line. It's free marketing for them.

Think Bigger Picture
Mp3's expose people to all sorts of bands. The popular and the unpopular. Let's say a person goes online and downloads a song by the Beastie Boys. He hadn't heard their music before, and now he likes it. That same person is now likely to buy the band's merchandise (such as clothing) and go to a concert (how much do tickets cost?).

While yes, a small percentage of people will not buy the band's cd, would they have bought it anyway?

And even a percentage of the people who have mp3s are likely to go purchase the actual cd because the cd comes with extras, 'there's nothing like the original', the quality is better, and it supports their band.

In reality, the bands are arguing over pennies. If they could see the bigger picture than they would welcome the mp3 movement. There is not alot of money to be made on cd sales - only in large large quantities of it.

They could afford to give cd's away for that matter and they would still be fine.
Because now they have an increase in fans; and an increase in fans means in increase in concert ticket sales, merchandise sales, and etc. etc.
