Alrigthy bro, I had a job at Las Lenas last summer as a ski instructor but for what ever reason I couldnt get a visa so I ended up skiing/working in New Zealand all summer. Anyways I did close to 5 hours a night on the computer doing research (from Feb-May), sending emails and making phone calls to even get my job (i was VERY lucky to get). Now as a foreigner the ONLY job you can get is as a ski instructor there is such a huge demand for work down there that every other job the doesnt require ceritfications is taken and faught over by locals (liftys, tickets, parking, bartenders and so on..)
Also I never looked into housing in Las lenas cause i was gunna be in staff accomodation but assume if there is any there it would be fairly pricy cause Las Lenas is in the middle of no where with nothing around, its just a tiny village with a few restaurants and shops at the base of the mountain. It is almost a self contained village, i think there is one club and mayeb three stores, so its not a place for night life but amazing skiing.
Now if you want steeps LL is the place to go they have some of the sickest terrain but again it may be hard to find a place to stay or whatever but LL is definately sick (look in the TGR forumns and search for Las Lenas and you will see what i mean). There are abunch more resorts that have some super sick terrain as well.. and also a park. all you have to is do your research to find out which one you want. Chile has some resorts that have the full package, park, steeps, nightlife everything so maybe look into them as well
It will also be very hard to sort out living accomodations from where you live now unless you speak spanish.. i took spanish lessons just so i could have that job and I still got almost no where trying to call these places. the phone numbers are confusing as hell and if you do get through then they just throw you around to different departments untill some one can speak a little english. it was very frustrating... also the internet at las lenas tends to go down alot so emails tend to not get through or are not replied to for a while.
Now if you just wanna ski and do your own thing thats cool but there is also a compnay that takes the hastle out of all of the shit i went through. its SASS www.sasnowsessions.com
( i dont think the site is up right now but just search it on google and theres other info there) and they take big groups of people to ski south america for a month or two. They include accomodations, some meals, lift passes, coaching (from some sick coaches), and spanish lessions like every night. Basically its a big group of skiers and snowboarders riding/living together and doign what they want to do, builds jumps hit rails, ski some steeps and all with coaching from well known pros. Also i think you may have to be like 17 years old to do it, so all the people you ride with are not little wiener kids.but im sure its pretty expensive tho.
Well if SA doesnt work out for you, look into New Zealand.... thats what i did and had the best time of my life. There is alot more resorts in new zealand then just snowpark and queenstown is the sickest ski town i have ever been to. Also getting a job and living there is suuuper easy if your not a complete idiot with your money. but for what ever place you choose to go start saving NOW!!!! for NZ i found out three weeks before i had to be there that i got the job so i just about shit the bed and worked over 60 hour weeks, and sold my pride and joy (mtn bike), and my parents through me 300 bones aswell to be able to afford the cost of the flight and first couple weeks of living. there was a 4 day strech when i got there that i had NO money what so ever, i had just paid rent and bought a loaf of bread, noodles, and peanut butter. i felt like an idiot for not planning more but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I hope this helped you out a bit, I think i probably forgot a bunch of things aswell but just ask me and i'll try to help you. I know how hard it can be to organize it but basically it comes down to money, if you have alot then you will have no worries at all, but if your alittle short then you will have to plan things out a little bit more. eitherway if you want to go bad enough then you will go.
