True. But I do remember, not that long ago (maybe 3-4 months) Doug posted some interesting information about the site traffic. I was really under the impression that Aliases would have made a bigger overall contribution to the member count. According to the data there was a really high percentage of unique IP addresses. I don't remember what the numbers were exactly but I was surprised by them.
~103k members/~84mos(7yrs)=~1200 per month average. seems like the rate over summer has been about 750
per month. Looks like it would need to jump up to about 1700 this winter to maintain the overall join rate average?
Its possible because Alexa is completely useless garbage. Believe me there are not more members in Latvia than Canada.
In terms of the member number versus Unique IP addresses - its true. There's lots of people that don't log in when they visit the site, they just browse. Maybe they have an account, but they don't use it much.
So last winter we did almost 94,000 unique visitors a month in January-March (peak months) so its not really that far off what the member count was.
Think about how many people just watch and don't post.
