Adobe Premier Question!

I just started learning adobe premier and it seems awesome. My only problem is that it seems to be hard to manage your files. Basically what im getting at is that i was wondering if there is a way to import a video file and have it broken up into clips in such a way that windows movie maker does. If anyone knows i'd appreciate it. thanks.

I'm not sure if I'm right but I think that if you import a video from internet (or any edited video), you can't have many little clips. It's only if you import a video from your camera.Tthen the video will be cut  at the time you start or stop to record. (Sorry for my english)

oh ok, now would you have to do that manually or would it detect clips from your camera automatically?

yah splitting the clips is super easy just use the little razorblade tool in your toolbar

When you're in the import window on the bottom left there's a box saying something like automatically detect scenes, check it and it will automatically cut the film into clips when you import it.

i prefer not to use the auto scene detect. I just capture my entire days worth of footage, name is like 4-3-07 or whatever the date is, then just cut it up as a need. I like it more because 1) you dont have a thousand files, 2) thats just too much naming, 3) you have to watch every shot so you're sure not to miss one. A lot of random clips i wouldn't of found if i did scene detect i ended up using and they worked real well.

and if that doesnt do it for you, level1 recently changed to capturing the way i just said, so if you do, you'll be cool.

Lol you shouldn't even have to google how to do that. Take the razor tool, and click on the clip in the timeline where to cut it!
