Salomon STH 16 Binding

im just wondering which binding to pick the STH 12 or the STH 16.  I heard the 16 is way stronger and holds u in please leave me some comments and what u think

do you like your ligaments intact?  dude you dont need a 16 din binding unless you are dropping 90 foot cliffs

i have 2 year ago salomon 912's and im about 6'3 and 190 pounds and i have my dins cranked to almost 11

not at all..STH12 is just a lower din binding (maybe lesser construction quality, i dont know) but certainly nothing wrong with it..

at 6'3", 190 and with dins at 11 i'd be getting the 16's

u think the 12's will be good for my weight and hieght cause i will probably will get those cause were i buy my skis and shit the guy says the 16's are intensly crazy and i should get a knee speciallist after i get the 16's lol

if you run your dins at 11 then you would be better on the STH16

then again, you may not need to set the bindings at 11, and you should actually be at 8-9 - in which case save some money, and get the 12's

either way they will both work for you, but if you are really aggressive and drop cliffs etc, i'd go the 16s

maybe that guy's an idiot.  you say you have your din at 11 right now.  using the 16's doesn't mean you need to change that.  in fact, you probably don't need to, and shouldn't.  11 is pretty high.  one thing to consider is that there is an advantage to having your din set with a little cushion above it as far as what the binding is capable of.  if that thing is constantly tweaked so hard it's basically at it's max, there is a lot of stress on it.  it's pushing the threshold of what it was designed for, and that's pushing it's functionality too.  if the price isn't gonna kill you, then ideal would be for you to have the 16's but probably set them at 12 max. 

i'm not saying a binding is bound to screw you if it's cranked...sometimes mine are cranked.  i'm just saying it's not ideal.

Definately get STH16's or the 12's. It gives you a better din range if you do want to raise it and it's based of the S916 design which is better rather than the Zseries design.

If your din is on 11 you definitely want the 16's. I find you usually don't want to set your din much less than 2 below what the binding is rated at. So if you get the 16s you can go up to 14. The closer you crank your bindings to the limit, the more stress you put on the springs = way higher chance of the bindings pre-releasing/breaking.

Can't add anything else to this.

I was in the almost-exact situation as you salomon-skier, I'm about 6'0 and 200 pounds and skiing with S912Ti at DIN 10 last year with some pre-releases, specially on landings that was. My shop guys was telling me I should just get 12's because according to the DIN chart I need to be on 8,5. I was able to convince him of the fact I need/want a 914 but then got a good (read: fantastic 35% off-) deal on the STH16 elsewhere so went with the STH16.
I mean, I ski at DIN 10, soon going to 11, the STH16 starts at 9, so there's no problem is there? Specially not if you can get it almost at the same price as a 914... ha

im in the same pcikle here. im deciding between the deadbolt 614(?) or the STH 16
Im 6'3" and 160lbs
I only ski big mountian(kicking horse), so no park
these bindings would be mounted on my thugs which i will be using for big ol' cliffs and booters
currently i have a pair of prohpet 90s with the s912 mounted on them and set at 9.5
Ive done the research and the deadbolt sounds like a pretty good deal

which one should i buy?

i got salomon 914's and mine are only at 10

unless your name is seth morrison and you throw double backs off 50 ft cliffs, you most likely dont need anywhere close to a 16.

what kinda stuff do you ski?

they don't make the sth in 14 though.. if they did that'd be dope.

to shutupandski- they are similar price, same din, both respectable durability I think so I'd go with whichever is lightest.

rossi axial 140 race or whatever they're called, 14 din pivoting rossis. and for my pow skis this year i'm tryin out fischer x17s. never ridden fischers before, but they seem dope.

If your din fall in the 9-16 range, get the 16, they're built a lot stronger.

And there is nothing wrong with setting your bindings at the maximum DIN. People said this decades ago when maybe there was some truth to it, and it just stuck. With morern materials it isn't a problem.

ohhh, well formerly it was pretty much all east coast park and I used a din of around 10, livin in utah this year so I"ll be skiin park city park and alta pow so I'll probably crank the pow skis up a bit. I could get away with 14, but generally as far as durability goes most companies make the stronger bindings with a din of 16 or higher so I get what's durable. I'm also 6'1 and like 180 lbs too...

yea theres nothin wrong wit 16, you just dont wanna crank it up that high if you dont need it cuz thats how you get hurt....ask my buddy.  torn meniscus and some other ligament in his knee!!!

but yea im 6'1'' 210 lbs and my park skis are at 10

my bc are at like 14

my rock/rail/urban are at like 8

i had deadbolts on a pair of lizzies, and well, lets just say i wasnt really impressed. they werent horrid or made my skis light on fire, but compared to my pivots they just didnt get the job done as well.

This is totally wrong.

The main difference is that it is metal. 
The pedestal that the driver toe sits on is now metal.
The heel now is a wormscrew and has metal screw reinforcement.

Salomon is out of them though.

if you ride big mtn and you are going to have that big of a ski, you should definitely go with the sth 16.  that binding kicks ass.  so solid an you'll never pre release.  the deadbolts kinda blow, so i wouldn't advise those regardless of your skiing situation.

STH 16's get my vote. Expecially over deadbolts. I love mine, they are on ep pros and never pre-released, only time they released is when i wanted them to because i was tomahawking...
