After figuring out that this site i was looking wasn't legit, i decided i am most likely going to get a still camera.
Now i want it mainly for skiing shit, which i've heard the canon 30d is really good for, but i also have used a nikon d40 before, but want to get a d80.
So canon 30d or nikon d80?

You should get an invite into the photography cult, and ask those guys. They know their shit.

the d40 has only like 6MP
go for something higher, you'll want to upgrade if you get the d40

I'm a photo student. Message me if you have questions, I work this stuff daily.
I shoot Canon. I don't know much about Nikon, and their camera's specs, but I believe the D200 or D300 would be the Nikon equivalent of the 40D. I would reccomend staying away from advanced amateur cameras like the D80 series and Rebel series, because D200's and 30D/40D's will give you MUCH more milage in your photography for slightly more money now. As opposed to having crippled features later.
Get the 40D. As opposed to any of that Rebel bullshit.
But.
MAKE SURE YOU GET GOOD GLASS. Buy the good stuff once, then you're not in the constant rat race of upgrading to slightly better lenses every 6 months to a year.
The glass is what makes your images. Remember that the body is going to be fucking out of date within 2 years. Both Nikon and Canon's lens mounts are almost 20 years old (Nikon's is over 30, but they keep tweaking the mount with new adaptations....) Buy the good glass once, keep it for years.
Buy new bodies whenever is feasable. And honestly, bodies will keep kicking for years as well, even if they're not up to date. A 40D will be able to produce files of extremely publishable quality for quite a number of years. Even if it's not the new whiz bang camera.
