my mom wanted to watch this movie angels in america tonight. its a 4 hour long hbo movie about aids during the 80s (when it was primarily a gay thing) anyways, its got some great acting, especially by pacino.
he has one especially good scene where he explains what a homosexual is. he plays an arch-conservative lawyer (who really existed) and he says to his doctor that homosexuals are friendless, shunned people, and that he is powerful and can get anyone on the phone that he wants. he introduces his gay lovers to reagan and reagan shakes their hand knowing full well what is going on.
that scene really got to me. these derogatory words we have for people's behavior are entirely based on their power. a powerful man who is a wife-beater isnt a wife-beater to the people whom he deals with.
