So IDEA is pretty much silly

This movie is so fucking good. I don't even know where to begin. I just got my copy in the mail yesterday and I've since watched it about 5 times. This movie is so awesome in so many ways that I can only mention a few of them without writing a novel. So, a few general observations:
1.) Completely original soundtrack. Has that ever been done for any ski or snowboard film, ever? Sick. When I heard it was going to be all produced for the movie I was totally skeptical thinking the quality would not be on point or whatever. Totally worked out really well. Flow was like phosphorous.
2.) Switch landings. There cool. Switch landings off huge BC booters and cliffs is a lot fucking cooler. You all know it, I don't need to remind you. But IDEA wants to remind you how cool they are. Pep does some absolutely insanely huge zero spins that had my jaw dropped to the ground. The Oregon gap segment (I think it was Oregon) is absolutely mind blowing. Switch 3 over that gap? Are you shitting me? I will never forget that shot.
3.) Washington pow segment. Beyond epic. The right place at the right time. Every skiers dream. Words are unnecessary.
4.) Progression of the 3 55-gallon oil drum jib is dope. The sequence of it being hit in the pipe is so ill.
5.) Last shot of the movie. First hit. The tits. One of the most memorable shots of any movie ever.
6.) Andy Mahre is my new hero. I've been waiting for someone to do a dope switch cork 3 forever. You win! So fresh I cannot even describe. The shot is perfect as well. I have watched this over and over more times than I can count.
7.) No matter how much your HDV camera looks like film, its NOT 16MM.
Iberg makes the best movies around. Theres never been a time yet where I've thought that maybe Royalty won't be my favorite ski movie of all time, that time may have just come. Possibly soon to be replaced with IDEA. I'll have to watch it a few dozen more times to decide something like that though. By the way if you didn't read this thread because it looked long, the bottom line is, this movie is the really really really good, go buy it right now.

To each his own, but I think the snowboarding seg sucked, and shouldn't have been in there. Oh, I forgot, these are pro skiers we're talking about - I must not be allowed to not like anything in the movie.

Dammit, I cannot wait till this movie gets in. I ordered this with Yeah Dude and PNW, so its going to be a all night orgy of movies on my friends 32 HD when they get in.

Did you miss what I said about the snowboarding seg. on the first page. If so go back and read it, if not well then as you said to each his own. (have you ever tried snowboarding?)

I read what you said - but I think I'm coming from a different angle. I get that they like to do both, I like snowboarding, I just think the segment didn't fit in with the rest of the movie. I agree with skodeo7, it should have been an extra on the dvd.
It would have at least worked a little better if it was all legit (at least, as legit as can be for these guys), or all goofy, but it was a weird mix. The stuff on the kids board/the little tiny ollie just made no sense to me. Like, if you're t-rice or danny kass or , it's funny to dick around and throw it in your video. But since these guys obviously aren't at that level, it didn't really go. The whole segment just screamed FARP to me.

Now I'm seeing your angle a little better.

I see what you are saying, but that song kicked ass and I thought it was great. They said the movie was about what they did this year and so I think it was cool to inclued it. The scene was classic.

You really think the song fit there? The whole rest of the sound track is sooo sick and chill - the cheesy 80s ish elctro sound in the middle of the movie = fast forward every time now.

I liked that song alot, it fit the segment. Was the seg necessary in the movie? Wtf-not? It's a movie about having a good time sliding on snow with good friends, and it looked like they were having fun on snowboards, not to mention they were pretty good on them. Overall, this movie is so good for the sport, madchill.

Well, I'm convinced now that Idea is the new armada (when it first came out) - you can't say a single bad thing about it, or you can, but 99% of people, even if they don't like something, will convince themselves otherwise.

I just bought it and finished watching it. I think it's a really nice movie but I'd have like seeing some rails or something in there but there's none except for the snowboarding part that has boxes... except that it's number one. I give it a 92%

You have the right to disagree, no disrespect. Don't pout if 90% of people don't feel the same way.

first of all...
i dont think people like armada cuz it was trendy. sure, the marketing was slick, but i think people like armada cuz they made good stuff, had good riders, and presented themselves in the image that most ns'ers respond too.
similarly, i dont think people like Idea cuz its "trendy." I think they like it because, frankly, its an actual work of art that stands out from all the ski porn.
moving on...
skodeo said (i dont know how to quote the first post):
7.) No matter how much your HDV camera looks like film, its NOT 16MM.
amen to that brotha.
although...
No matter how great your 16mm camera looks, its not IMAX. Ha haa!! Just kidding though. 16mm is dope.
Nice work Mr. Skodeo

i wouldnt say its the best ski movie ever, the skiing was easily the best though. tbc still beats it with amazing filming and editing and overall vibe.

TBC has a vibe? Hmm guess I didn't notice it. TBC was a good movie, but nothing stood out to me at all except Brandon Beckers seg. And that was the first seg of the movie... IDEA definitely makes TBC it's bitch.

ya know...it's a lot easier talking trash on a hollywood movie, because you know that tom cruise or george clooney aren't going to log on to the forum and respond to you.
although I'd be impressed if you guys showed up at my house and beat my ass for not liking the snowboarding segment, like at the end of jay and silent bob strike back.
(and for the record, the rest of the movie is gold, but there's already a 100 posts about that)

Did anybody else notice what Pep is holding in the closing seg? I thought it was funny.

Message from FRZN+REIGN:
Haha, bet you didn't expect andy to respond kid. Why focus on the one aspect of an amazing movie that isn't meant to be taken as seriously as you are? Trend or not, if you hate on this movie, you just don't get it.
Get off of pro's nuts, andy mahre posts on here all the time, it's nothing new. This is what I'm talking about - "if you hate on this movie, you just don't get it". It's just a fucking movie, I don't have to quit skiing if i didn't like part of it. The idea bandwagon is huge.

^^Haha, wow. I stand by that, I see no reason why the sport shouldn't celebrate this movie and everyone involved with it, if you're comparing the snowboard seg to T-Rice etc. then your taking it too seriously and you're missing the point, that's MY opinion. I would've pm'ed you, but apparently that's above your communication level. Peace out.
This is off topic so figure out the pm if you want to continue this man.

first of all, best ski movie ive ever seen. best anything movie probably. but that doesnt mean that if you dont like it, you dont get it... ive definitely talked to some very sick big name skiers(won't name drop) that didnt really like it that much.
i mean, if eric, pep, and andy would have had the attitude that NS has about new things/progression, the movie wouldn't have happened.
and i didnt really like that snowboard seg either. i felt like it was a cool part of the movie, but i could have done without it, ya dig?

clarify what? Oh and everyone keeps saying that shot was helmet cam through the trees. It's not. It was 16mm being held in Pollards hands.

Amazing watched it twice last night - favorite shot is Pep's underflip tail - never seen such a smooth trick
This movie truly stokes me for winter, and to ride Hellbents
IDEA has such a fun vibe, i did'nt mind the boarding at all either, it is all buddies having fun, i love the laid out front and backs just dicking around. And never has a movie progressed BC pow riding like this ever, the butters and cab landings blew my mind - so ya buy it

i had a feeling it was something either than a helmet cam. the angle is too close to the ground- unless that was REALLY deep pow.

You should watch the directors commentary thing. It actually answered a lot of the questions I had about how they made the film, who certain people were etc.
