Diamond edges

Imagine how cool it wold be if ski companies started making ski edges with a titanium/diamond composite.

it would cost a fuck load of $$$ but your edges would never dull and everytime you did a railslide you would be wearing away the rail not your skis. And rocks .... what rocks ! the diamond would slice through them like butter, scratched bases yes but blown edges no!

unless im not thinking this through clearly, diamond edges would be a pretty sturdy idea...i dont think they would crack or anything cuz the only thing that can scratch/cut/crack a diamond is another diamond....although they would definitely be mad expensive and i dont think the ski industry would be able to constantly produce skis w/ diamon edges

^ Yes, think about when you slide a log (assuming you have). New edges burrow into the log more easily and you can have a hard time. The diamond would cut into anything on contact.

It wouldn't necessarily have to be diamonds, there are minerals that are harder (or whatever) than metal and shit... but diamonds are so pimp

don't they put diamonds in drill bits? Cause I know some diamonds aren't pretty enough to be sold as jewelery, so then they would be cheaper.

they have diamonds on saws and stuff. They can cut diamonds with metal too. They find the imperfections and crack them open.

A diamond can't be scratch but It can be shatterd. A rock would shatter the edges specially with it being so cold out, things shatter more easily in the cold.

i've got a foot long rod of medical grade titanium that they removed from my leg last week, if anyone knows anything about metalworking, i could make edges out of it?'

it's probably not enough metal to make edges out of, but mabye ummm, grind-edges?

wouldn't something like that make an edge too sharp and make turning a little more difficult?? I not sure I know you want the edges closest to the tip and tail to be dulled so they don't catch in the snow. I like the durability thought cause tuning your skis is not the cheapest thing in the world.

Diamonds if made properly aren't that expensive. You can make diamonds out of peanuts butter with high enough heat and pressure. I don't think is is practical though because you can't get a fine enough contour with all diamonds. It would be little chunks of diamonds along the ski. They would be a yellowish color though and they would glow at night after being exposed to ultraviolet light.

i've heard of people using diamond edges on saw blades, we were cutting drive ways one day at work and we just used normal blades but they said diamond tipped would cut through really easily, so it would probably work on skis, but i guess if they even touch concrete a little bit they are fucked.

They can make diamonds now where everything is the same as a real diamond except they glow after being put under a fosfo light. I think that is cooler than a real diamond.

a 14inch dimond saw blade is $250 so you could see that a ski that has way over 14inches of edges it could get super expensive

a 14 inch diamond saw blade is not 250 bux. my dad runs a masonry company and he owns two diamond blade saws. a 14 inch artificial diamond blade only costs him 80 dollars. theres way more steel in a saw blade then there is in a pair of skis so its practical pricewise. the diamonds would have to be crushed into fine dust and added to the steel in its liquid form to be effective. and they would be manmade diamonds of course, not real.

also the harder something is the easier it is to shatter, thats just common sense. glass is super fuckin hard but when you toss a baseball through a window what happens? exactly. throw a baseball at a piece of steel the same thickness and it wouldnt shatter even if the ball was fired out of a freakin cannon, cuz steel is softer than glass.

SO diamond and steel together being used for ski edges might be nice cuz they wouldnt dull, but in certain situations they might crack, like landing on a rail way too hard, or hitting a rock or a death cookie ski nazi style(really fast).
