Before hitting anything, I take a look. It is just common sense to know what you are getting into. This creates a "wasted" park lap, but it really does make things a lot safer.
Then I visualize. I try to get rid of all of my fear or apprehension on the lift and before I drop in, so I can focus on the trick. It seems to work well for me, but it is an aquired skill and I do enjoy the mind game that I am pretty sure makes up something like 90% of high level skiing.
