Totally out of the blue, probably because I am in skiing withdrawal, but who has taken a skiing trip to Japan. How was it? How much did it cost? Where's the best place to go? Any info is welcome. Thanks.

I lived there for a couple years.
If you live in the West, you'll probably find the skiing a little underwhelming. The lack of attitude in the parks is refreshing though.
Places to see? I think Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara) is where it's at. So much fun to be had there. Hokkaido is your best bet for skiing/hiking though. The Sapporo brewery in Sapporo is definitely worth a visit. There are loads of other places, of course.
Things to do? Other than the general seeing things and walking around, Japan is a great place to eat and drink. So much good food, and I'm a big fan of the beer as well.

yeah Sapporo beer rules and the food is so damn good.
I might be moving there next yr. so I've been checkin out snowjapan.com lookin' for places with good parks and it looks like Joetsu Kokusai in Niigata or Hakuba 47 in Nagano has the best parks and Hokkaido has the best pow.

u know why japan looks sooooooo fresh and nice? cuz it is. you know why it is? cuz the japanese are crazy and treat these certain types of trees as sacred and they are forbidden to ski near the trees leaving untouched, what 3-4 feet of pow?, for the lucky ones who get to offord to go there?

I can assure you that there are cheaper tickets out there.
You should be able to get tickets for around $1000.
Also, FYI, Japanese airlines (and other Asian airlines for that matter) are so much better than American ones.

Been to japan many times. Was born there. The best place to ski is in the northern island of Hokkaido. Yes, the Japanese poeple like to do groomers all day so all you have to do is go into the trees and you will seriously have the freshest lightest pow for a few days (the australian skiers on vacation will also be in the trees). Flights to Japan are not $4000 bucks unless you're flying first class. The flights form the West coast of the US range from 600 in the cheaper seasons to about 1100 in the holiday seasons. All you guys considering to go should have a good time. Japanese people are super chill and Japanese girls love anyone who can speak english. You'll have the time of your life.

yea dude the bonus is the FUEL tv series TGR does and it pretty much just chronicles their trip.
basically it goes..
show up in japan, meet crazy/awesome driver dude.
go to resort, get kicked out for not sking groomers (seriously)
decide never to go to J resort again.
start driving around.
see wicked cool thing to hit, thats ridiculously close to road.
hike.
realize ridiculously cool thing is under 3 feet of bottomless pow.
rinse and repeat the last couple steps for the rest of the trip.
the different way you would go about skiing in a trip to japan seems so fucking cool, just drive around and go hiking with your buds.
