Ski Bum Tactics

Well, next winter, im looking for a way to stay at my local mtn (well, not so local.. its 1.5+ hrs away). I dont want to have to leave and come back every day during christmas and march break. What are some suggestions from you experienced skibums for staying up there at minimal cost... (about $20 or less!) I wont have a car till march break.

i know some of the larger mountains have dorm-type living for employees, i think it would be fairly cheap if your mtn has it

get a good sleeping bag and wear your coat and sleep in a tent, i have slept in one when it was in the teens so its not bad if you do it right... and ifyou do it make sure you leave the door partially open or there will be snow inside in the morning

Do not wear your clothes inside a sleeping bag. Get a good sleeping bag and strip to your underwear. Also, get an air mattress in order to separate yourself from the cold ground. Leave your clothes your goign to wear inside the sleeping bag so they stay warmish.
For the tent, put snow on the outside of it, so no air gets in (drafts) and close the front door.
If you can get a latern, it will provide heat aswell as light. (turn it off before sleeping)

*never wear your boots when sleeping either* they'll get cold and won't warm back up.

check to see if there are any ski dorms, or hostles, if they have em, they are only like $10-20 a night.

or like people were offering, find someone in the area.

dude in a tent you open it a bit so your breath doesnt condense and leave frost or snow inside... but you might be right on the no clothes thing i just know when i did it i was on a little mattress and in a mummy bag closed all the way except for my nose and mouth

why not just sleep in your car, and make sure its off and you have both the windows cracked just slightly and have a sleeping bag and like they said keep all your clothes in it

mike, may i suggest just hopping houses. you can stay at my house for a couple days, maby martins, ha, i bet doug and dave would even take you for a night.. theres a hell of alot of people to stay with... charles has a place up here to i think... ayrton... loads of people.

ya dude then just put a tent out and get raped by the locals in the middle of the night... i wouldnt feel safe in a tent, unless it was up in the woods, i have thought about sleeping in the woods before because i didnt get a ride for the next day... maybe this year i will have too

no, i dont have a place up there. i have a cottage in muskoka but its pretty far from blue. i think my parents have some land really close to there but theres no building on it to stay in.
