Being an eastener, lving in boston, pretty much spening enitre winters in vermont and maine, its kind of shitty here, and I wouldn't mind leaving. But next year (08) I can go anywhere i'd like to and I think im going to spend my time living in Madison, why...? I seriously don't know, a year and half ago when i moved here i wanted nothing more than to get out of the midwest, but it's grown on me, For the most part theres more of a comradery on the the hill, people stick togheter, no battling crews (for the most part), and its a very supportive envoirment, Plus when its not ski season, I love the people here, I don't miss the getting the finger all the time, and being bitched out everytime i ask someone to do somethng, don't miss the traffic, don't miss new yorkers, don't miss theives.
Heres a comparasion, I lost my wallet in Colorado, stolen, gas purchases, on it the guy went nuts. Im at the mcdonalds (Tyrol Basin) last week and it fell out my car door (ya i did it twice, the second time i wasnt thinking), and two days later its in my mailbox, thats the midwest for you, its great! I also had lots of fun checking out the competition theme this year, its much more mild, people arent up in each others faces, people are smiling and supportive of each other, at bigger events, there can be a lot of people who just hate hate hate hate.
As to ski conditions, They are better than the east coast, but the Hills sure ain't but its almost better here if you just want to ski park, as for anything but park, of course the midwest is lacking, I'd take colorado snow utah powder tahoe steeps over all of this but you know what its just not the same...
