I am currently sewing together a pair of skins, because I am too cheap to spend the money for the nice whole ones. Does anyone have any experience or tips with making skins from scraps?
Oh god, dude, good luck. They're expensive for a reason. The materials they use are synthetic nowadays, and built super-strong in order to sustain the abuse they get. Also, the glue for those things is intense... I'd just buy some, it would be cheaper in the long run.
cheaper and easier to use. like the guy said, their expensive for a reason. my 100mm skins cost 100 bucks. it isnt reallllly expensive, but i dunno, its money. but its gonna be worth it. they work so smoothly and efficiently. they really have their shit dialed down.
i dunno what your planning on using for your material, but keep in mind you have to glue the bottoms, and on skins, that glue rarely comes off. its special. it makes it stick to the bottom of your skis, but when you peel it off, it sticks to the skin, not the ski, and leaves behind no redidue. pretty trippy shit. you can buy re-glueing glue at stores, and buy the loops at the top at stores too. you also gotta figure out what type of tail attachement your gonna have, and i wouldnt mess around making one, id just buy one. but with the glue, the loops, and tail pieces, your into like 30-40 bucks. just buy some dude, i like the idea, but it seems like to much trouble.
