JOI: 2 days of sessioning is done

so, after 2 warm up sessions in the behemoth JOI jump, shaped to perfection by the man himself, the following tricks have been thrown:

( - ) = grabs done in the trick

double backflips (japan, mute)
double frontflips
frontflip to misty 5
kangaroo (mute, japan)
double cork 10 (safety)
double cork 12 (high mute)
switch rodeo 5 to flatspin 3 (safety, japan)
switch rodeo 5 to underflip (mute, japan, safety)
switch rodeo 9 to switch rodeo 5 (mute)

all kinds of spins ranging from 0 to 14

im leaving it up to you to try to guess who did what.

tonight another session will take place, and people are getting used to the compression in the beginning of the 60 ft transition, the weather is perfect with 50F and sun. expect even more. the future is now....

no....it doesnt. it sounds like some sick skiing. with people like you, theres no pleasing. if someone spins a lot, like a 12 or 14, now its some gay aerials shit. if someone grabs a sick double cork, now its gay aerials shit. what is it you want? everyone to do ones and fives? that would be boring as hell. and with jons new comp format, the riders cant throw the same trick twice, so we get to see there whole bag of tricks. why are you complaining???












i just wonder how long until trip flips on park jumps.
someones gonna die.

It's not possible to do a sw 9 to a sw 5..!!!

when you have done a sw 9 you are like forward so you cant go from sw rodeo 9 to sw rodeo 5...!! It's not possible

well, we're going towards having new and newschool tricks to do off huge ass jumps like this one, too... think Mega Ramp skating: that stuff is incredible, but it won't change day to day skiing.

i don't speak about mega ramp in skating cause every time i see that i'm just thinking about danny way is just the craziest and biggest rider in the world cause he's making our sport like skiing and snowboarding fucking really easy
i'm speaking how our sport is getting more and more technical and crazyier, but the thing when i'm watching the snowboard movies they have been training on the style and the back-country before flipping double flip in every comp they are doing before being the strongest everywhere

Different skiers, different tricks, different styles.

If you like at Travis Rice, one of the more publicized dudes right now, he's doing the double flip thing, but most aren't.

As it stands, only a minority are double flipping... off the top of my head you have jon, jacob, spriggs, wilson, bushfield and wells. That's not the majority. You and others are at another pole of the evolution, which is definitely in style...

So we're all a big happy family who does a bunch of stuff differently, on skis.

you are speaking about a minority but watch the JOI and tell me it's a minority
in the snowboard compagny there are david benebeck, travis rice, frederick i don't remember his name, eero etala and some otheri don't know the name
but compare to the ski and you will see that the proskiers are pushing right now the sport into the aerials thing

out of all of the dudes at joi, who is doing the doubles except jon, jacob and jossi? If there are more im unaware of, then yeah, maybe i get you.

but like, the tricks being done are so far from aerials dude. grabs, plateau jumps, switch stuff... if we start doing quadruples, even triples, then maybe, but double have always been fair game...

aerials would be points awarded for difficulty on a pre-prepared scale, calling the trick before you go so the tv announcers and judges know what to judge in the trick, arms up, legs straight as possible, spin tuck spin tuck, land, arms up, legs straight, with no horizontal movement and a huge ass vertical jump... we ain't there yet....

sounds like some aerials shit to me. But, I guess you can't blame anyone for trying to make some cash.

Also. you are saying that if somebody does a triple cork 14 that's where the line is crossed? How did you come up with that? What's the difference between a double cork 14 with a shitty grab or a triple cork 14 with a shitty grab. They're both shitty either way.

I guess it only makes sense. I don't ski that much anymore, but when I do I sware I see kids throwing ugly ass pinned out 1080's in whatever way they can and then they wonder why they aren't sponsored because they are "doing" big tricks. Seems like now even the top pros win comps for doing aerials...1260's without so much as an attempt at a grab...double backflips no grab. I thought everyone was over that when michalchuk was deemed a dildo head?

I have nothing against more difficult bigger tricks, I have a problem with people simply doing a trick without any style and being proud of it. I know that if Dave Crichton were out there doing double corks you wouldn't see a single one without a full styly grab or else he'd feel like he failed. THAT is progression.

LOLO hwas a goodpoint it is turning into Areals but really jon makes his dubs look soo perfect grabing them through the whole rotation thats sick in my opinion, fakie bub cork 14 though thats way too much of a huck keep the dubs under 10 or there not as stylish and boardering onthe hucked side of life.

The tricks are not aerialist, because they aren't hucked the same way... at all... especially when it comes down to having a MASSIVE jump to do them on.

You don't see this kind of trick except on really huge jumps, which means that instead of simply hucking your meat, you're trying to get time to do them.

Wait until you see the video from the comp... then tell me it's aerials.

Also, double corks are, seemingly, at a stage where "shitty grab" is not even part of the picture. High mutes, japans, crutons...

At triples, then you're gonna need one hell of a jump to make it look good and have time to grab or anything... then, you'd be closer to aerials.

Meanwhile, they're being grabbed, with style, hit switch and landed switch, all over a massive jump. way off.
