Muscle injuries - recovery tips?

I really hurt my ass today after falling on an unintentionally off-axis 5 on dryslope - it hurts like a bitch to walk and the drive home was very painful too. So does anyone have any advice to help it heal quickly? I was thinking a hot bath and then a hot water bottle on it tonight - what do you think?

Some people like heat some people like ice. I have it figured out. Hot ice. You heat up the ice.

Just rub icy hot all over your bum. That would be weird.

Ice it. 20 mins on, 20 mins off. don't heat it for a few days. it will relax the muscle, but it will also make the bruise a lot bigger, and therefore last longer. also rest it, wrap it with a tensor bandage too, and elivate it if you can find a comfortable way to do that.

for me ice works better than heat cus the heat just inflames it dont go in the hot tub but my doctor said that heat works better for some people so try both and see which you prefer.

The general rule of thumb:

Ice the first 24 hours
Heat the rest

After a season of track and soccer complete with a few pulls theres a stretch that can help.

Sit down on the ground with both legs straight out in front.
Cross the hurting leg over the straight leg.
Using both arms pull the bent leg towards your chest until it hurts.
Hold it for 20 seconds.
Releaser and wait for 10 seconds.
Repeat 3 times.
Get up walk around.
See how it feels - still hurts, repeat.

If they pain hurts up into your back, do the same thing, except instead of hugging your leg to your chest: take the arm opposite your hurting leg and cross it over the bent leg while twisting your torso.

That should help.

Yeah dude I know that stretch and it hurts like a bitch if I do that, so I'm not sure if I'm doing more harm than good by it. Well it's been over 24 hours since I did it now so I'll go with the heat at night I think and see how that goes.

And no skiing for me this week (and for the subsequent two weeks since the dryslope is getting fully resurfaced), so the break should give me plenty time to recover. No skiing means that I'll just take a bunch of footage and have a sweet video to show you all next week.

ice it the first 48 hours, if you heat it, it will increase blood that pools in the muscle. That is bad for recovery. After 48 hours, use ice and heat alternating. This increases bloodflow after the initial rip has occured and will help healing.
But DO NOT HEAT the first 48 hours.
