the flu kills thousnads more than SARS. the only people who are at risk of actually dying are elderly people with many other complications.

Weather it is only 3% of the population that are either dying/infected/or quarantined because of the virus, how do you find the balls to JOKE about a DISEASE that is KILLING people all over the world. man, go look at some statistics on how many people die from the regular flu every year? It's HUGE compared to this!

The only reason SARS has gotten so much press is because they don't know where it came from or how it is to be stopped.

On a slightly different note, i was reading on msnbc today that a few healthy people have died in Hong Kong from SARS...suggesting that the virus or bacteria or whatever it is has begun to mutate which will make it even harder to control.

I feel the same way.. a lot of it is bad media but its not like the media is actually giving us any useful information they just keep repeating the same thing over and over again. It is the new mystery illness and that is part of the problem, no one knows much about it including the scientists who are working on it. And yes I do think that it is a little extreme to think that a young healthy person is going to die from it. A majority of the deaths in Ontario at least have all happened because of other reasons SARS was just a complication that sped up the dying process. Eldery people who are already very will can not battle common diseases and infections like younger healthy people can. I have not heard in Ontario of anyone dying as a DIRECT result of SARS. Yes we should all be careful cause it sucks to be sick its not like its some u catch it and die instantly disease.

Sars isnt as deadly as the flu, YET. The problem is how contageous it is, and how nobody knows what really causes it, or really ANYTHING about it. But hopefully in a year or two they will have found a vaccine.

I was more worried about being hit by a car when I skating on the streets of toronto last night. Fuckin people everywhere celebrating, had a better chance of being beaten up. over 1000 cases have been confirmed. 113 have died. I'm not diminishing the fact that 113 people have died. I'm saying there are many other things out there that you should be worried about.

The death rate is 5 percent. It deteriorates into pumonia after flu like symptons. This was an avoidable diasease If China wasn't so gay. Last november it started but China decided to not tell people. Worry about a real diasese like aids or malaria (300 million per year)

that's what a public health nurse told me. Basically it is only a threat because they aren't sure what strain it is, and exactly how to 'cure' it. Basically it kills old people, or people with immune problems.
