i got a laptop for college. i'd rather it always be online, as to download torrents and shit like that, so i set it to not turn off when i close it, just when i hit the power button. can anything negative occur because of this, like overheating or whatnot? its a new computer so i assume it has fans and shit, my desktop never got fucked and i left that on for years. the power cord is plugged in along with a usb mouse and my ipod, could anything happen to any of these devices because of this? thanks.
it can overheat... unless its in sleep, but it will get really fucking hot, i had one, and it woudl get so hot it coudl burn your fingers if you grabbed iton the bottom... but yah, i dont think its a good idea to leave it on all the time
i dunno are laptop has like a 30 min battery life so we asked a guy at future shop and he was like do u always have it plugged in and we were liek ya usually and he said that might be it
I leave mine on all the time. If i leave it alone for 10 mintues though the monitor and everything shuts off, and I also have a laptop stand i keep it on that has a fan venting system on it to cool it down. It's been fine. I've been doing it like this since I got it a year ago.
what i do is i created a power mode for mine when i want to leave it on(if you can do that) just turn off all the things that you dont need like screen brightness and shit like that then just make sure that the cooling is at 100% and it should be fine...i leave mine on all the time and i havent had a problem yet
Laptops arn't mean to be left on, if you do this for a year or more maybe even less it will eventually die out. And it will get really hot, and start to run slow. So if it's new your probably not gonna what to do that.
where does it state that? Unless you have shitty bargain notebook leaving it on isnt going to cause any problems. If anything its better to leave it on stationary in one place then lugging it around everywhere, whether its off or in hibernate.
