An idea about limiting guests accessability.

I thought about an idea to limit guests accessability in newschoolers. I thought that to attract more actual members and have less guests, we could only let them get into the seperate forums, and have it (if you can) so that they can only go inot on thread, then when they try and get into another on, it automatically brings them to the/a sign up page for new members.
This would cut down on members, and would allow the mods to put more emphasis on becoming a member of newschoolers.
If the block into the 2nd thread is not possible, then just make it so that they cannot go to the actual thread, and can only see the title of the thread, who made it, etc.
Good idea? Bad idea? Comments? Questions?

I don't know if I like that idea. They aren't really doing any harm by only being guests.
Also, by allowing guests free range, we are allowing people to try out the site to the full extent before they sign up. I think it may actually keep people from joining if they can't get a feel for things first. I know its real easy to sign up and all, but some people may want to decide if they like it before they waste 5 minutes signing up. I could see your point if the guests were causing a problem, but for now I think its fine the way it is.

I think alot of members browse NS as a guest when they are using other people's computers. I know when I'm at friends places, I'll browse NS as a guest and only post if I see something that really interests me.

What's wrong with having guests on the site?
They're just as likely to click on ads as you or me, so it's not like NS is losing out in that sense.

Same here.
Its not like the guest are doing anything bad though. They can't post so they cant spam or shit, they cant upload...I say leave it.

I think limiting the amount of reading a guest can do is a good idea, and heres why- If you make more people who read the forums become members, some of them may post and become active members just because they have the account. Many people are not that excited about it to make an account, and wont get one and post unless they have to. However, the more members you have, the better the chance that another person gets addicted who wouldnt have had they not been required to make the account.
