Please go see An Inconvenient Truth. I dare you.
I highly doubt that anyone can go into that movie with a "global warming is not a problem" mindset, but still with a semi-open mind, and come out thinking the exact same thing. And if you do have that mindset still, I highly doubt you'll have sound reasoning behind it (most likely it'll just be stubbornness).
So go see it. And don't come with the Fahrenheit 9/11-esque bullshit. Watch the movie, and actually listen to the facts. Have some balls to put your beliefs to the test. Don't follow in the President's footsteps and say you're not going to see it simply because you're scared.
Love,
Andrew

Gore is a fucking chode. Watch the trailor to the video, it's fucking rediculous. Apparently global warming causes nuclear war. People the earth gets cooler and warmer naturally. It's been proven over thousands of years of core/ice sampling. There's enough evidence to show this is natural as it is caused by human behavior.

if this won't change your thinking, what will? i mean, yeah, i'm glad you saw it, but my point behind this thread was kinda talking against exactly what you did. laugh it off, it's cool. i'm glad you put yourself above evidence.
i'm not saying anyone should walk into this movie and say "god damn, that al gore's a genius. i've completely changed my thinking", but not letting your opinion change because it was a two hour movie is kinda stupid. he did write a book of the same title, too. maybe if you read that it'll get up to your level and have an impact.

I already know the story. Rapid melting of ice, increased average temperature, and less snow. He shows 1,000 exaples of this and as well as shows how much pollution we are putting in the air. He goes over the green house effect and how we are contributing to it greatly. Nothing new man.

i would recommend taking a class about global sustainability at u of m then. it brings a lot of topics into a different light. as i recall the industrial revolution was the main cause for the huge spike in co2, but population growth goes hand and hand with that. as bad as global warming seems, deforestation(another cause of gw) should be a far greater concern then global warming itself. if our ecological footprint grows at the current rate we might have to post up on the moon.
ps i know a lot of chill u of m kids. states got a good group of dedicated riders(mostly boarders) that do urban and carpool trips, we should ride sometime.

yeah. everyone knows the story, but that wasn't the power behind anything he was saying. it's easy to make up a story. it's hard to make up numbers.
fuck, i thought the same thing before this. i wasn't so sure about this whole global warming thing. i mean, i learned in a history class this year that in the 1400s there was a global cooling where the climate dropped by an average of four degrees. i figured that we were just on a cycle and thought that was what the whole warming situation was attributed to. sure, i did lean a little toward the human impact side of the argument, but by no means was i completely on either side. i'm still not after watching this movie. i've just started to lean more. if anything the first scene of the movie was one of the best points made in the whole movie, and only had a little to do with global warming. the movie has made me more environmentally aware and had a lot of great information in it. watch it, and i can guarantee you won't have heard half of what is in it.
you might not go see a movie like "the break-up" because you already know the story from the trailer. that's not the point of this movie.

What Al Gore does with his money or what car he drives doesnt change the facts presented in the movie. Maybe Al Gore made this movie to raise money for himself but that doesnt make the movie false. Go watch the movie. Listen to the facts presented and form your own opinion. Don't worry about Al Gore driving an SUV.

You're right. Al Gore doesn't care about the environment. He's only spent the last 30 years fighting for environmental changes, going around the world giving speeches raising awareness of global warming, making a movie, writing a book, creating programs and pushing for reduction of pollution. He's giving 100% of the movie and book profits to research or something. I'm sure he has already at least neutralized his own carbon emissions. The energy used promoting the cause is negligible when put up against the impact it has on people around the world. See the movie.

Really? I'm glad virtually the only evidence you have is from a biased source.

Yes and no. If you get all of your info from a biased source you will get a distorted sense of what is actually happening.

How is believing the oil companies' propoganda to discredit global warming any different? Are they not a biased source? Efforts to protect the environment directly infringe on their profits.

James140 why did you say the same thing i did in a rebuttle?
if it was a personal attack....then youre wrong. i have looked at multiple sources from multiple sides of the political spectrum.....also unbiased scientific research not funded by "THE OIL COMPANIES LOL". I have concluded that global warming is being blown way out of proportion. If you dont agree with me please dont tell me its because i have a closed mind and make yourself look like the enlightened and open one. you just look like a 15 year old that smokes too much pot and gets force fed his opnions thru the most expensive powerpoint presentation ever made.

give me one example of an unbiased source.

take it easy dude, all I'm saying is the whole biased arguement works both ways. Al Gore may present the facts in such a way to make them appear in his favor, but I'm saying that many who discredit global warming use the exact same tactic.
And by the way, I'm 17 actually, I've never smoked pot, and I have done research on this topic and come to the conclusion that global warming has not been blown out of proportion. Don't make personal attacks on me simply because I have come to a conclusion different from yours.

it has some factual basis, the rest is Al Gore blaming global warming on this presidency which is completely wrong. It is more dumb propoganda that you bush haters will buy into. If Bush saved the world from destruction you radical bush haters would still find something wrong. With the position he was put in I think hes doing a damn good job, and fuck al gore and his propoganda
