Photo Contest

There should be an ns photo contest. At the end of the season, may or something, ns members should submit their previously unviewed photos of ns.com members (not shoped of course) and then a selected group of knowledgable people should select like the top ten or something and then post and have everyone else decide, but keep all the names anonymous until the end. the winners would of course get a prize or something, but the point would be to have something constructive going on. you could have different categories for rails, big mountain and what not.

Great idea, I like I like. I don't think we should DQ anyone... if both the skier and photographer are NS members then that will narrow it down some... unless Reedy and Clausen form an evil conspiracy!!!

I have seen the pics that pep posted but is Damien Cromwell an NS member?
I thought we were going for a contest where both skier and photog were ns members. I could be wrong of course... as I quite frequently am.
And I'm in no way saying that we don't have some great photogs on here, but to disqualify someone before the contest wouldn't really be fair. Sometimes in photography you get lucky, lets keep it open to everyone.

i agree with Chris, no one should be dq'ed.
if anyone, pro photographers should be. but i dont think so.
but skiers, it doesn't matter, i mean a shitty photographer shooting a misty 7 is no where near as good as a good photographer shooting like a twister spread.

Most of that sounds ok, but i think you should be able to have unlimited untries and have not only the sections you named, but also separate the 'regular' into the categories in the photo section (big mountain, rails (terrain park and urban), bc kicker, terrain park jumps, halfpipe/qp...etc.)

Oh one thing, Freezy, that photoshop catagory is a fucking horible idea. From what I've seen, most peoples 'photoshoped' pics are just plain shit. And about that no 'photoshop'-ing of photos, I think that minor alterations (levels, curves, croping, burning/dodging, touchups, etc) should be alowed, as they are merely processes in modern photography. And I think we should have a not ski-related, 'artistic' catagory. Eh?

I don't care about the photoshop thing. If I'm not allowed to do simple stuff (all I do) in photoshop I'll just spend more time and do it in the dark room. But for most people it's stupid to ban stuff like contrast/brightness/sharpening etc. Hell, I have to do that to make pictures look good once thier scanned anyway.
