Yes the vid is old but the kid actualy hucked a 220 footer this afternoon at snowbird, he was GOING for 290 but came up short landed in between two rocks and almost died, it's leo from the goldminers daughter at alta. He didn't beat the world record, sorry.

I watched Leo dropped that cliff 2 seasons ago at Whitewater in the spring. It is not even close to 290. We all thought it was 130 feet when we saw him drop it, but later that week someone went up to measure it and found out it was 170. At the time it was a North American record (and yes it was bigger than any Pierre cliff at the time).

The crazy thing is Leo dropped that in spring conditions, the guy was so crazy that our photograpger , Bryan Ralph, stopped taking photos of him. He thought the guy was going to kill himself to show off for the camera.

Yeah my friend was there and said either his ski or pole or something hit that rock next to his hole on impact. I guess he only broke his collarbone or something but that was wayyy to close to being a closed casket, leo really needs to smarten up a bit

yeah. All it would have taken was a little more/less wind...a few inches left/right on the take off...and yeah. He would have been a bloody mess.

After J.P. landing 245 to his face and this guy missing rocks by inches, plus stuff like Paul Ruff in the past, I really hope people start to really think this stuff thru.

Paul Ruff had calculated his jump forever and seemed to have it all worked up....but the smallest change resulted in his horrible death.

Honestly....at this point it is getting absurd. 100 feet - that big. fucking huge. but if it is done right then you should be ok.

200 or 250+?? Come on. Thats pretty ballsy...IMO pretty stupid too.

You would have to be completely ready to die, or completely sure you would live, to do that. I just don't think I could fulfill either one of those requirments.

Yeah I was having a conversation with my friend earlier today while golfing (the kid who watched it go down today) and we were trying to figure out why people would do that. Is it for recognition? Because you can easily get recognition tricking 100 footers, do we really need to be jumping 290 feet(a fucking football field)?

I think at that point the only reason it's considered skiing is because they happen to have skis on their feet, it's more of a stunt than anything else, and it's not a very safe one, people are escaping these huge hucks with lots of luck and I'd hate to say it but people are going to start dying soon. Look at how fast the record is going up, if he jumped where he planned on today the record would have gone up over 100 feet this season, mark my words people will start getting hurt.

it seems like it is going to have to come down to someone getting seriously injured or dying again before it settles down.

It has been a few years now since anyone has died dropping huge cliffs. pretty sure the last major death was Paul Ruff. There was the Heavy Hitting Films guy who died doing a road gap by Whistler a few years ago too, but that wasn't a drop.

Honeslty - the face that both JP and Leo are alive is luck. Leo could have easily landed on rocks and JP could have easily snapped his neck when he landed on his head.

the amount of force your body would expirence when you landed would be ridiculous.

If I were there I honestly wouldn't want to watch.

IF someone fucked that up...it was be so fucking brutal. When Ruff died, all his friends watched him bounce like 30 feet after he hit the rocks. fuck that.

A few years ago riding copper a snowboarder caught an edge above a 70-or so foot cliff in copper bowl (i think) and tumble off to rocks below. we watched from the lift. He was screaming and shit. He didn't die, but was super fucked up. It ruined the ski day, which I'm pretty sure was a powder day. None of us wanted to ski after watching and hearing that.

Yeah, that Copper bowl cliff is gnarly. If it's the same one that you are talking about, it's really only about 35-40 feet, but it's such a small landing between sharp rocks. And on a powder day, like you said. It Just looks like one big white landing. You can't see the sharp rocks under snow.

Seems to me that Pierre was smart enough to plan a drop for seven years, waiting for the best opportunity to jump it, these other guys seem like they're just gonna drop any cliff they come across unplanned and last minute. Of course something will go wrong.

yeah, and he still landed on his fucking head. I honestly dont think anything should be counted as a world record if you don't stick it. throwing yourself off something huge and not dying is no athletic achievment. if we only recognize shit that gets landed we'll see much more intelligent and skillful hucking.

Well I watched carr front that 140+ footer this year during the snowbird IFSA and the snow wasn't even soft that day, I mean the guy did it smooth and calculated but he had expected an extra 10 inches overnight that never came and he went for it anyway (probably because powder and OLN and tons of fucks were there), I mean I was dropping 20+ers that day and getting a little jarred, I thought that shit was kinda stupid but I guess he's on a whole nother level.

Leo Brayman. He was from Montana (I think) but moved up to Whitewater a few years back. He started filming with Bryan Ralph about 3 years ago (when we were also filming with him). But Leo, fuck that guy was nuts. No matter what the conequences were he would do it. He just did not care at all.

It was hard to be around him sometimes because at any moment you felt that you might have to revive him after a terrible crash. Bryan actually stopped taking photos of him because it felt Leo was going to severly injure himself for the sake of a photo.

it's cool to see guys rip down big lines with serious exposure. it's cool to see guys drop big cliffs and occasionally throw tricks off of them, and ride away clean. it's not cool to see guys drop off of cliffs so high that they can count to anything higher than 5 on the way down. don't get me wrong, i respect these guys for their fortitude in pushing the limits of skiing, but seriously, it has to stop somewhere. if i wanted to see shit like that i would watch old dare devil videos or something. shit is getting out of control.

word...people are going to just keep trying to huck bigger and bigger and like everybody is sayin they are either gonna get seriously hurt or die. when i saw the pic of Pierres 245 record i almost shit my pants. that looked so fricken big to me. and to land on your head and make a six foot hole in the powder? what if he landed a little to the left or right, right on a rock or somtin. he would instantly be killed. shit IS going too far and people are going to really start to get messed up.

I just think it's pretty funny how know one knew who this guy was, and he just did it. Jamie Peirre made this whole im skiing for jesus thing and then stopped "hucking" his cliffs, a few monthes later someone breaks his record. I dunno i had a chuckle...

it's physically impossible to land that big of a freefall jump on your feet. The shock, even with 5 feet or so of powder would kill you, or break both your legs. The only way to get out alive and almost unharmed is to land on your back tails or on your back itself. Pierre was awesome doing that, but there are limits on skiing that humans can't break until there are super wide skis that act as a parachute: and that's not going to happen soon.
