i had an idea for a competition style that i think would be pretty cool. based off of everyone being pissed about the spin to win thing at the US open and xgames, i think that judges should be eliminated entirely. instead you have a two day competition, all televised. the first day, the competitors throw down three runs for everyone watching to see. then, they go home and vote online who should win based on STYLE and TECHNICALITY. the second day, the top 5 or 10 would compete again in the 'final' round and again, people would vote for the winner. i think it'd be a cool idea and would eliminate people like mike douglas thinking they know what skiing is about nowadayz just cuz they skiied 10 years ago.
that would be silly, cuz the problem is a lot of non skiers would also vote, and they dont really understand the style aspect or the difficulty of some tricks, so spin to win would still win, and a lot of complaints sadly are just because people like to complain, once spin to win stops people are gonna start wanting spin to win again, its an aggrivating cycle
yeh i hate the spin to win thing. i would much rather see a really stylie switch cork 7 truck than a switch 10 with a decent grab that eveyone else does. i dont really know what to do about the judging. maybe they should just get some pros that arent competing or something to do the judging like candide with the super-pipe this year
Not sure about letting the public vote, but having the competitors vote is a sick idea.
After a day of skiing compile all the footage, and get the competitors to watch it and give scores.
idk, it would be hard to have a judging system that appealed to all skiiers. there are so many different styles out there like slow saftys spins or flips vs fast hella tweaked ones, etc. what is 'style', you know? maybe each competition should have something like in Amped where they are informed on the specific things that judges are looking for. like 'big spins on rails', hah
it'll never work and they should instead make some comps style and some technical. in the style comps people should not be allowed anything over a 7. in the tech let em go nuts
yeah, the god-father, not a man from today's generation of skiers who have developed a style and sense of trickery uncomparable to the style and tricks of 1996. So yeah, I think he's a shitty x-games judge, so what.
yo fuck you you dont know shit about douglas, he still rips, watch the movies, look at magazines and listen to himtalk...he has to also let the public understand
Inventing the sport does not make Mike D a good X-games judge in today's times. He seems like a friendly guy, and he's a great skier I'm not denying that so don't get all defensive for the guy because I think he's great. He's not a good judge though, we need younger people judging, people that are inventing new tricks, not looking at them and wondering "what the hell was that." I'm not saying Douglas is that ignorant either, but he's just not the kinda guy layin the really new stuff down so how is he supposed to be an accurate judge when he doesn't know how hard something might be, or how appreciated something is nowadays? Be real guys.
I think it would be sick if there was a slopestyle BC comp in USASA Nationals cause it kinda sucks how Im from Alaska, and I go down there and thers all these groomed features and stuff....I didn't even know how to hit a 5 foot table switch cause Im so used to doing switch off cat tracks and cliffs.
I think that the Orage Masters does it best where al lthe athletes compete together and vote on each other instead of judges. Plus it is the most laid back and fun, or so i have heard
we should just have snowboarders judge us... cut out the middle man of our desperate plea of trying to look cool in their eyes, just be told directly instead...
