im not hating on the people from the west but please stop hating on the ppl from the east. everytime i see a pic or thread or video about or from the east there always saying that its sucky or pathetic. you have to understand that we dont have the same moutains and amount of snow that you have out west. i'm not trying to start a thread where it just turns into a fight between ppl from the east and west. all of us in the east dream of going out west and we know that the east is nothing compared to the west. thats all i have to say
People do not move to squaw and immediately dominate the mountain. I don't know about Jackson or Whistler because I have never lived in either of those places, but the best lines at squaw are thrown down by people who have lived there for a long time. If Seth moved to squaw he would dominate fast, but are you really trying to tell me that if a ripping east coast local were to move to squaw he would be skiing the palisades better than Shane McConkey, Robb Gaffney, Scott Gaffney, JT Holmes or Kent Kreitler? It takes time to adjust to terrain. I have known many people who have moved from the east, I came from there myself, but the big mountain skill level of those who ski out west is simply much higher. Some east coast skiers will eventually get great and dominate, the Gaffneys are good examples of that, but it takes time. I felt like a much better skier at mad river or sugarbush than at squaw. The stuff I skied back there was just not nearly as steep, ice or no ice. If you think you could just step in and dominate the scene at squaw that is ridiculous, unless you are Seth, Sage, or Nobis, and those guys are west coast skiers.
what about jay peak? I was unable to get out there last year with my knee injury but I hear they've got some sick trees and lines under the tram? It seems to me this terrain is probably some of the hardest in the east. What about the slides at whiteface, they are never open but does the steepness compare at all to anything out west? Whiteface has Olympic required pitch on many of its trails...
i hate to do it but to you guys who are compairing the average person to the top pro out west come on thats just stupid but my friend who lived on the east his whole life just came back from school at CU and said it was a lot easyer skiing out west then here in the east the slides at whiteface are easy yeah but they have some really technical areas that would give the AVERAGE western skiier a problem not a pro who ever braught the pros into this is dumb because they are in a total different leauge then all of you on here including my self...sry about the rant but this thread just pissed me off i also agree that people should just stop saying how much better one place is than the other and exept what you have have what others have
I agree, but if you would take a west coast skier of the same caliber and transplanted him onto an east coast hill, he would be one of the best there IMMEDIATELY. Also, I'd venture a guess that the 100th best skier is better than the absolute best skier at any east coast mountain in terms of overall skiing.
jesus people. it is skiing, everyone takes it way too seriously. ultimately, everyone is sliding on snow on pieces of plastic and wood! there is no rivalry, and who cares if one region has better snow than the other. it is just skiing! everyone needs to relax.
be at snowbird when they open Twin Peak.... then come talk to me, if i knew how to post pictures i would and i think ya'll east coasters should start postin pics of your shit i wanna see it.
I brought pros in because other people brought pros in. To say that someone from the east would dominate a western mountain in one year means they would dominate pros. Yes they are in a different league, but to dominate squaw or snowbird means you ski like McConkey or Sage. They are pros, and they ski the way the best skiers on those mountains ski. Maybe the statement should be altered to "a great east coast skier could become a very good west coast skier in one year." That may be true, but if you are dominating in Tahoe or Utah, you are skiing at a pro level.
you mean u can slide rails better? or do tricks in the air? thats not real skiing, trust me when i say WEST has the best skiers...i'm talking real all mtn, and big mtn skiing...west owns!
and kids in colorado love it just as much as kids on the east coast, i live 2 hours from most mtns, and have to spend all of my money on gas, trust me their is just as much heart and dedication, there are a few bad egg's, but there are everywhere...anyone who skis is killing it, no matter where you are
haha are you sure ur's arent slush? whenever i see vid of the east coast, it looks slushy, and i guaruntee u, ice is ice...no matter where u are..all pipes are icy
