I probably shouldnt post this, but I will anyway. Most of it is gossip, so dont give it to a news station or anything. I work at Baker so I got quite a bit more information.
The guy who died was 20, and his brother was 23, it think. They were both skiers. I guess they were maching down chair one when the 20 year old didnt turn to go into the chute. It is true that he had to duck two ropes to get to the cliff, but that might just be understandable. Since they have everything open riding (at you own risk) except the canyon, he might have thought he knew where he was going. Turns out he launched off the cliff and tumbled on about 7 inches of snow over ice. He died of either massive head trauma or a broken spine/neck, I dont know yet. When he landed though, his brother was at midpoint of chair one and took off his skis and started running up the groomer towards his brother. (I cant believe I didnt notice this but I was on chair two, saw the brother running, but just shrugged it off and didnt look below the cliff). This happedned at about 10:30. The guy died instantly. When his brother got to him I heard there was blood everywhere and his leg was broken off at the hip and his foot was by his head. All that held his leg on was the skin. I guess once the brother got to him he couldnt even look at him. He was pronounced dead at the scene once the ski patrollers got there, and they had a tarp over him when they put him in the cart thing going down the mountain. The brother was drunk while this happened, and they ended up taking him down the hill because he was still intoxicated and delirious from seeing his brother dead. Though the guy who died probably wasnt, the coroner is going to look into seeing if he had alcohol was in his blood. Again, the guy who died was 20, and if it turns out the 23 year old brother supplied him wiht the alcohol, he will be held accountable. All that is still up in the air and is probably not true. Anyways the cliff the guy dropped was 120 ft tall. For those of you who have ridden Baker, the cliff can be separated. As you go up chair 2, you go pass the chute, but before you get to the artist point road (the big brick retaining wall) he jupmed off there. He jumped off inbetween the road and the chute, usually where there is ice.
As I said before dont repost this anywhere or broadcast it in any way. Most of this message is hearsay and may not be true.
