SAN DIEGO(AP) - Police found 2,000 pounds of marijuana inside a cargo truck early Wednesday.
Officers stopped the truck on southbound Interstate 5 shortly after midnight because lights on one side of the vehicle were not working, police spokesman Dave Cohen said.
After questioning the driver and a passenger, officers grew suspicious and asked for permission to examine the truck. A Customs drug-sniffing dog that was called in to assist discovered the drugs, Cohen said. The amount of marijuana rose over the day from 200 pounds to a ton.
The two men, Miguel Palencia, 32, and Jose Campos, 37, were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession with intent of sale and transportation of marijuana.'
