President George W Bush told Palestinian ministers that God had told him to invade Afghanistan and Iraq - and create a Palestinian State, a new BBC series reveals.

In Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs, a major three-part series on BBC TWO (at 9.00pm on Monday 10, Monday 17 and Monday 24 October), Abu Mazen, Palestinian Prime Minister, and Nabil Shaath, his Foreign Minister, describe their first meeting with President Bush in June 2003.

Nabil Shaath says: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …" And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it.'"

Abu Mazen was at the same meeting and recounts how President Bush told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state."

The series charts the attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from President Bill Clinton's peace talks in 1999/2000 to Israel's withdrawal from Gaza last August.

Norma Percy, series producer of The 50 Years War (1998) returns, with producers Mark Anderson and Dan Edge, to tell the inside story of another seven years of crisis.

Presidents and Prime Ministers, their generals and ministers tell what happened behind closed doors as peace talks failed and the intifada exploded.

BTW...this report was called out. Bush's actual words were not the same. A couple employees at the BBC lost there jobs over the report because the UK actually requires the media to be somewhat factual.

^actually yes, why yes it is. those quotes are first of all, not directly from the source, but from other people re-stating what he supposedly said 2 years ago? gimme a break. Not that i don't think he used religion to help justify his intentions, but that is ridiculous and that is how people get bullshit recycled into there heads. Look into it a little bit deeper, and maybe some of your bias will dissapear. I'm not a huge fan of the guy either, but i definatley don't hate him.

So Bush is in a meeting with his cabinet discussing ongoing affairs in Iraq. They are interupted when an aide runs into the room and annouces "A car bomb just exploded and killed three Brazilians."

Bush's jaw drops in shock and says "Oh my God, that's awful. How much is a brazillion?"

^^ should bush have responded to 9/11 of course...and he did...which is all fine and good...he found the guy he was after...didnt find weapons of mass destruction...yet we are still over there? why are we still over there? and he is trying to impose a government on them that we have no idea if they even want...i just found out tongiht another kid i know was killed...im tired of hearing about people i know and care about being killed or having thier legs blown off at the age of 20. would kerry have done a better job...no one will ever know. but im my opinion...bush shouldnt have been in office his first term...then this entire situation would be different...we would have someone completly differnt then kerry or bush in office.
