Well, we've seen it but not on Proctor...

why, oh why would they put it on sale before the season has even started, and just after the concept of the ski was introduced. those are absolutely ridiculous business practices.

maybe because they want people to pre-order the ski?

but the demand for a new pro model ski is there already if they sell it at full price, even for a longer period of time. it really cheapens the image of the ski and brand if its sold on sale the minute it gets in stock (or in this case, even beforehand...), which leads me to believe that ski company reps cant stand this site. i know line has had issues with pj before, and i think this is an issue as well.

um, lanks, honestly now. Im thinking that your way of thinking should possibly go extinct. Personally I'll buy whatever ski I want the most and if the price is cheap, hell, cheaper the better. I mean if the ski is built the same more or less as another brand, it's just as good or at leats very comparable. And if I can spend 300 on one instead of 500 for the other, Im thinnnnking I'll go with the 300.
I think I'll say no more, dont wanna, ya know, let the cat out the bag and all

kasanovah...of course the consumer would think that way. i think you'd be crazy not to. and as a consumer, i shop like that too. but... this website can't just go and undermine the set price that ninthward put on that ski before the ski is even on the market. im looking at this from a retailers and ski companies point of view, and simply stating that this hurts business.

wow, when I first read your post about putting them on sale, I thought you meant on sale as for people to buy the ski, not lowering the price. Well I understand what you're saying and I really have no idea why they would put them below retail at this point, at the very least I would think they'd say "call for price." Who knows?

who's business does it hurt?
Do you think that if ninthward made a quality ski regardless (which Im not saying if they do or dont, ive never had the pleasure to test them), they sell to a retailer for however much money, and the retailer can either A: sell for what we consider regular price, or B: sell for less than that, be it a lot less or a little less .... who is it hurting, Im not thinking ninthward would care so much.

the thing is, thats one of the responsibilities of a sales rep, to withhold the company image, which is hopefully a quality one. the ninthward rep's job isnt finished once he sells 'x' amount of product to a certain retailer. he should be consulting with them to see how many units are being sold, and at what price theyre being sold at, if he's doing his job.
as an example, at the shop i work at, we used to sell elan boards. at one random point during the season when there werent supposed to be anysignificant sale prices, the store decided to significantly mark down elan snowboards. we sold a tonnn, but otehr elan retailers around also complained a tonn to the rep. he came in unannounced and was furious at the fact that we sold his boards at such a low price, because we were undermining other stores completely, we werent really making any profits, and all of a sudden, his product looked super cheap and crappy. he had every reason to be pissed.
this situation with proctor jones sorta reminded me of that particular incident at my shop, which is why i said what i did earlier on. so if the ninthward rep is anything like the elan rep in my story (assuming ninthward didnt give the 'ok' for these prices), i think he'd be a little pissed.
but regardless...somebody should hop on this deal soon! cheap 06 ninthwards!

yes, you have A point that I 100% agree upon, how other retailers would be upset, but I'm gonna leave it at that for now

its pretty simple man. if you sell skis cheaper than the other guy people are gonna come to you to buy them, thus taking away his customers who would be otherwise evenly distributed between your store and the other guy's.

you need to understand how things work. and you don't know all the parts. lets just say that what they are doing isn't a bad thing. i can't get in to details, but but think of it this way. car dealers. the car has an msrp (manufacturer's suggested retail price), and then the dealer has a price in which the can't sell below. it is the same with skis.
you are right in your elan situation. the shop probly went below their lowest sale price, OR they had a deal with the rep due to the other shops in the area, and reneged on that which would cause the rep to be pissed. this is not the case here.

i made a jump in logic when i assumed the sale price below msrp was in or around cost to proctor jones; i know now that it isnt. in addition, i remember that particular site selling other brand new skis at a stupid low price, which angered a particular ski company. thats why i thought it could be an issue.
but regardless, props for straightening things out.
