I'll agree that the "fighting the entire western world" thing was an oversimplification. Al Queda by its very nature can't be a singular organized group. The fact that the organization has "Sleeper cells" suggests everything but an organized core with directly linked branches. Cells receive training methods for that "core" and gets directions to attack targets, and that's pretty much where the similarities stop. Each cell has an agenda of its own in some way. However, they do share similarities in one way or another, which is why they attach themselves to AQ in the first place.

Just personal feelings. I've been all over the world and seen many different kinds of people and cultures. I have grown to have little respect for people like this. As a whole, many people are helpful and poses a good nature, whether its in Scotland or Laos. I understand that they have a thought process, logical reasoning, etc., just like any other human being. But the fact that they can "rationally" come to the conclusion of attempting to kill as many innocent people as possible "justifiably" simply sickens me. I don't care what kind of life or background they come from. Many even think little of killing themselves in the process. This is testimony that their regard for life is lower. They believe even with the pain and suffering they cause, that an afterlife will sort out the good people from the bad. That does not make it fair to any but themselves. There is no proof of what the afterlife is like, or even the fact that there is one. I don't care if its some grunt insurgent or Osama himself, they are the lowest order of humans on earth. Their outlook on life is minimal. I call them animals because they show me little to call them anything greater. There is also little to show that they are willing to change their discussing course in life. Hence my degree of distaste for sympathizers. Sympathy shows an extent of support, regardless of how small or large. Call it as scary as you like, but it is my personal opinion.

im going to england next month and ill be in london for like two days, i hope nothing happens. however on the news they did say it may happen again because its nearly impossible to stop this stuff from happening, espeacially in london where it is so diverse.

Just brining one more thought to the table.

We know that the terrorists are an extremist minority. Why then, in at least the Al Queda situation, are we not seeing public demonstrations (by Muslims) protesting the horrendous actions of the terrorists? Not just in the Middle East but all over the world. What about the honest and peaceful Muslims that live in counties like Great Brittan, Indonesia, and the United States for example? Shouldn’t many be openly appalled by terrorists killing innocent people and claiming a Jihad in the name of Allah (i.e. their faith)?

We have all seen fanatical Anti-US/Western demonstrations in Arab streets, but why are we seeing no anti-terrorism demonstrations? Is it because of governmental and/or social climates? Is it in defiance? Is there a sense of subdued tolerance? Are they afraid? Is it actually happening but being hidden? I wonder...

I think that's a good question. I would say it is a combination of the things you mentioned.

1.) I don't think having an anti terror rally in a country that has a history of oppression and a long track record of supporting, harboring, and breeding terrorists wouldn't be such a great idea. I'm sure you're aware of that.

However, I do wonder why muslims in more liberal countries are not protesting against terror if they're so against it. I would think that apathy may have something to do with it. Just look at how many people vote in our elections.

I don't think muslims would go out of their way to take to the streets. Not only would that make them easy targets for hate mongers, but it would require a lot of effort and probably would change their lives very little...unless of course we start racial or religious profiling. Then they're going to be getting pissed because then they are directly affected.

I guess my point is that people are lazy. And until something happens that fucks up their little universe, they won't do shit.

2.) If there WERE an anti terror rally, in a muslim country or in a non-muslim country, I would have to say it probably wouldn't get coverage because our media networks suckkkkk. The sad part is, it's becoming cliche to say the media sucks, or at least that's my perception of it. What's worse is that IT'S TRUE. How important is the Michael Jackson case? What about hurricane coverage? Wtf is the point of reporting in the middle of a hurricane?

Reporter: "Jim Reynolds here. Tim, it's windy as fuck out here and I just got hit by a 2x4."
Anchor: "Stunning stuff, Jim. Who would have thought? Wind--with a hurricane."
Reporter: "I know Tim, this is why I'm a journalist. So I can get sent into the middle of class five tropical storms to report on shit that people already know."
Anchor: "Thanks Jim. Now back to the Jackson trial."

You get the idea. Think about how much REAL news could get covered if there was no BULLSHIT on TV, radio, etc. The only place to get semi legit news is newspapers and web sites, both of which require reading, which unfortunately deters many individuals.

Point is our media does a shit job of covering international events (BBC is far superior, but not the media messiah by any means). Ashton Kutcher's new jeans take priority over informing generally ignorant Americans.

Anyway, that's my little statement.

1) It does make you wonder about some Middle Eastern nations. The people can’t seem mount an anti-terrorist demonstration, but they go absolutely bananas if a Quran is supposedly flushed down a toilet. I think it implies than the government could be encouraging some of the protests. But what about less manipulative Middle Eastern nations like Turkey or Saudi Arabia? We don’t hear much from them do we. And there are always places like Spain, UK, and the US, where you truly have a right to publicly voice your opinion. Brittan for example has a huge Arab population, yet they are quiet as mice.

You hear claims about Arab-American discrimination and cold shoulders. They should speak out and say they want to help eliminate the problem of radical terrorist Muslims. I could guarantee that there would be less of that “Towel Head� mentality if the Arab people would open their mouths and arms. Doing nothing (i.e. what they are doing right now) helps no one but the terrorists and their supporters.

People aren’t lazy if they have incentive. Part of the problem is that there is little incentive to begin with. That’s why, as I said on the second page of this thread, that government leaders need to step up and say what the terrorists are doing is wrong, and encourage their people to help in the fight against it. If the leader goes, the rest will follow.


2) There is a lot of truth to that. It would have to be a large-scale and well-organized demonstration to create any kind of serious media buzz. Something like the million man march for example. Its hard for anybody to ignore a massive crowd of protesters in a place like DC (or London, Tehran, or whatever). If a rally like that can break the evening news, its successful. Volume equals voice, and it would only succeed if its on a large scale.


Maybe its just me, but I sense a lack on unity in a Arab world.

Yeah, I agree with that post. As JD noted above, terrorists cells, often times can't cohesively decide who the enemy is and that is a microcosm of the Arab world as a whole (I'm including Persia as well as Arabia in my generalization).

Stable countries (countries who don't fear getting the shit bombed out of them by us, mostly) have different sentiments about American and the Western world than, say, Syria, Palestine (not a nation, really), or Lebanon (thought Lebanon is trying to work their way off our shit list).

Another thing I just remembered is the blantant contradictions presented in the Kuran (or is it spelled with a Q??? whatever) . For every passage of compassion, it can be interpretted in a negative respect, which extremists use to validate their violent actions in order to combat for control over ordinary things like resources, money, and of course, more control. On the other hand there is a passage, and I can't cite the exact one, which mentions "killing the infidels."

These same contradictions are present in the Bible. For example, "eye for an eye" versus "thou shall not kill." Depends on your AGENDA.

Now that I think about, the Bush administration has had some great contradictions during its 5 years.

Exhibit A

1. Social Security Surplus
BUSH PLEDGES NOT TO TOUCH SOCIAL SECURITY SURPLUS... "We're going to keep the promise of Social Security and keep the government from raiding the Social Security surplus." [President Bush, 3/3/01]

...BUSH SPENDS SOCIAL SECURITY SURPLUS The New York Times reported that "the president's new budget uses Social Security surpluses to pay for other programs every year through 2013, ultimately diverting more than $1.4 trillion in Social Security funds to other purposes." [The New York Times, 2/6/02]

2. North Korea
BUSH WILL NOT OFFER NUCLEAR NORTH KOREA INCENTIVES TO DISARM... "We developed a bold approach under which, if the North addressed our long-standing concerns, the United States was prepared to take important steps that would have significantly improved the lives of the North Korean people. 3. OPEC

4. Iraq Funding

I see a trend here. I see people craving control back tracking and even FLIP FLOPPING. Remember people calling Kerry that? Well, he was just behaving like any other man seeking more power.

As for the topic, you are right to an extent. Holy book contradiction is another topic entirely (I think there was a thread about it a month ago), but when it comes “flip-flops� there is something that always needs to be considered. That is of time and changing circumstances. Now obviously this by no means justifies every turn of the deck, but its something that needs to be kept in mind. You could hand pick from examples of circumstances forcing change in opinion. Prohibition would be a good example. Of your own, 4 would be a good example.
