I don't deny there are bad things in the US right now, hell, 51% of the country to be exact. But god damnit, our country being fat is NOT a problem. I do't give a shit how fat people are. hell, fat kids are harder to kidnap, that means our country is safer.

That is absolutely untrue. We make none of Volkl's skis and vice versa, nor are there any plans right now to move production. We are too busy with our own production and Volkl currently has a high tech facility producing their skis in Germany. We aquired Volkl but as of yet there has been no interaction between companies in the range of technology or production.

I take that back. I was just informed that some low-end models will be moved to an Asian facility for production. Not Volkl as a whole.

Das Unternehmen müsse sich gegen die Konkurrenz aus Österreich behaupten. Im Nachbarland werde in der Ski-Industrie für eine Arbeitsstunde 27 Prozent weniger bezahlt als in Deutschland, sagte Bronder. Betriebsrat und Gewerkschaft hatten zuletzt eine Forderung der Geschäftsführung nach Mehr- und Samstagsarbeit sowie einen Verzicht auf Lohnerhöhungen abgelehnt. Daraufhin hat Völkl bei der Agentur für Arbeit einen Antrag auf Massenentlassungen gestellt. Der letzte deutsche Skihersteller beschäftigt derzeit noch rund 530 Mitarbeiter in Niederbayern.

Produktion bereits teilweise in China

Im Straubinger Völkl-Werk werden derzeit jährlich noch 430.000 Paar Ski hergestellt. Derzeit fertigt der zum US-Konzern K2 gehörende Sportartikelfabrikant schon Snowboards in China. Zudem werden bereits jedes Jahr mehr als 60.000 Paar Ski des Unternehmens in dem asiatischen Land produziert.

It said 49 jobs were lost in the shift with more to follow, and that the shift was induced by competition from Austria, where ski factory workers work for 27% less than their german counter parts. They still produce 430,000 pair of skis in their German factory a year.
