Ok so here is how my very sudden and extremly succseful leep into photography started.....My dad is going away on biusness for about 6 months to praug and budapest so before he left he told me i could have his camera.....i was amazed he gave me a Canon Rebel EOS (a 1000$ camera) with a fish eye lense....a standard lense..........and a CRAZY zoom lense that must have cost 500$ by itslef.....i was pumped so the first day i brought it out with my freinds to this pond skimming comp and i was taking pictures and exploring sequencing..as i was doing this a guy came up behind me and told me to come to his office after the comp above our ski shop....so after the comp i did and found out he was the website guy for our mountain....he looked at my pictures and old me i was amazing for my age (13) and he was going to use all of the photo's on the website so he asked for my name loaded my pics onto his comp and i was off he told me all my pictures would be credited to me and they would be on the site in about 2 days......that was a sick day

i did my own settings.........alot of instruction manuals the night before just because i was wicked exited and wanted to know how to use it right but i think i need a slower shutter speed for the ammount of light that day......the pics are pretty dark

i think that with those a larger aperture would have helped but keeping the same shutter speed if possible. because of the flat light and everything a custom white balance prolly woulda helped bring some more colors out

if the guy tells you that he cant pay you, its BS, you're giving them free publicity.

Don't be afraid to get closer to the action, or use your big zoom. think ahead to image you want, try to imagine everything that will be in the picture, not just the subject, but also the foreground, background, and everything in between. try to think of some cool angles too.

oh, and when you're shooting on snow/sand, you should overexpose the shot a couple stops. and in a few frames you need more contrast between the skier and the background

Yeah it does. But as the previous person said, always overexpose by 1 stop in snow. Lightmeters automatically expose light as a mid, gray tone, so to make it pure white you have to overexpose.
