After the event, Helly Hanson treated all us athletes to food at Wahoos Fish tacos. We all voted and decided that the best skier was Travis Redd who stomped multiple good slides with switch off, 270 off, and a massive 180 over the stairs. Jon's 180 was also recognized. I talked to him that night and he said he was feeling much better. Andrew Stewart (snowboard) was chosen for best trick with a clean 270 on and fluid frontside nose presses. There were some other snowboarders that also got prizes but I dont remember their names.
Wilson fell to the rocks and got his ski caught up and twisted his knee. The medics said he probably didnt tear his MCL totally, but may have started too. A little scrape on his side, but all in all he said he will still be fine for the season. Mad props to him for even trying that.
All in all it was a pretty fun event for the beginning of the season. I should also point out how cool the cops and the paramedics were at the event. They were all impressed with the riding and especially the crashes. Mad props to Flatiron Mall for letting us jib their rail!
...he died doing what he loved. He will always be rememberd as a great snowboarder, but more importantly as a great friend.
In loving memory of Josh Malay.
